Not another Weekender photo thread surely? Oh yes
I was only able to get to the Sunday of the Weekender which was a shame as it looked like I missed out on some cool stuff on the Saturday, still thought it was an awesome day out and really nice to just be around loads of old, cool cars again.
I was taking photos on my phone, but my brother was with me and was taking shots on film, which came out much better so I'm using his photos not mine
Getting to the Weekender in the first place was a bit fraught, despite the extra year of preparation we've all had, I left it till the last couple of months to get my Honda Legend welded up, roadworthy, get a functional gearbox and in some sort of show-able state. I ended up with a week of short journeys going to and from work to shake it down and then it was a trek from the West Midlands to Suffolk for a wedding on the Saturday, before going down to Goodwood on the Sunday. Some rear tyre-to-arch rubbing gave me a bit of anxiety but managed it all without a blowout!
First pics are shameless Legend self promo content
We were parked in the Deadlines paddock which had some great stuff in it. There are a few shots of this Soarer which is a cool ride, it was for sale, a bit rich in my personal opinion, but thats the way the Japanese car scene is these days
Excellent Rotary powered Mk3 Escort
Nice Chevelle owned by Splitty456 I believe, I'd certainly like to own an American land yacht of some sort
This 121 was great also, I'd largely forgotten these existed until I saw it popping up on Instragram just ahead of the show
A bit later on these Sprites parked up also, both fairly well known cars but both also look like a huge amount of fun
As I'm starting to forget which cars were where, here are some more of the shots from the paddock area
A couple shots from the Supercar paddock area where we somehow managed to completely miss the Pantera's that turned up later
After that we took a wander up the trackside Retro Parking, as ever, plenty of quality on show with cars from all eras. Did overhear a few grumbles from some at some of the newer cars there, but I didn't think anything looked too out of place. I was even a bit surprised to see a Renault Megane Classic, can't think when I ever saw one of those last on the road
I think after that we took a break for lunch, before carrying on with the club stands outside the track. The Porsche line up by the Porsche building was quite something, and the trees where the Colt and Toyota (Cressida's? Mk2's?) were parked up, make for a lovely backdrop for photos. Also I mustn't forget the gorgeous lineup of Italian machinery too.
We of course took in plenty of track action in the Autosolo as well. In 2019 I took the Legend round this as there were spaces on the day, it wasn't well suited to it and with my rear tyre issues I certainly didn't feel any compulsion to join in this time! Most seemed to get round without too much incident, although the RX7 smoking its way back from the end of the track didn't look very healthy and the 850i seemed to lose forward gears after a few burnout attempts..
And I think that's about it! He was a bit film limited on the day but I think as ever you can see the typical variety we come to expect from RR shows, it was a great day out and I've got plenty of tweaks to make to the Legend before the Gathering, I'll finish with a photo of the very cool RR kaido racer, just a shame I didn't get to hear it fire up!
