This is hopefully within the remit of this forum. I'm on the lookout for old motorcycles, something I can get running and either use or sell on. Everything on Ebay seems to be overpriced, can't see much on Gumtree and not being a Faceache user, I can't see what's on FB Market. I've heard people say that Gumtree is dying in the face of Facebook Market, is this the case? Where do your car/bike purchases come from? Have a picture of a Goldwing Cafe Racer as payment.

They're all dying a death slowly, ebay with their new payment processes, gumtree with facebook and facebook with it's users. Also found since lockdown that every one thinks their tat is treasure.

Look out for sales cards in supermarkets and shops and place wanted adverts in the local newspapers.

Gumtree has been dwindling for a long time, most of the listings are just links to ebay ads since they got bought out. Though you can occasionally find a hidden gem on there. FB marketplace is pretty good for having a lot of things for sale and often cheaper than ebay, you do have to have your wits about you though (as with pretty much any used purchase) and often ads are very brief and lacking in detail. I've been in a similar boat looking on and off for old motorcycles and people do seem to be asking stronger money wherever you look, I think the size of bikes made them ideal lockdown projects so the price has gone up with demand Car and Classic is worth checking out, often find a few very decently priced cars and bikes on there Edit to add: While its not a particularly old bike, I did find mine on FB Marketplace

They're all dying a death slowly, ebay with their new payment processes, gumtree with facebook and facebook with it's users. Also found since lockdown that every one thinks their tat is treasure. Prices however have gone up, and folks are still buying. There have been some bonkers sale prices. E46 330Ci ClubSports now sell for 30% more than this time last year. Mental. Seen it too in the classic car auctions.

I think that's probably it, the Covid pricing. Maybe later this year when people have given up on their projects I might be able to snap something up. I'm not even thinking mega old, maybe 90's to early 2000's, carb'd so I can have a fighting chance without the computers mucking everything up.

Seen it too in the classic car auctions. I bought my E46 325 Sport locally via Gumtree, pre-first lockdown for what I considered to be a relatively low price compared to what others were asking on ebay and Autotrader etc. The prices being asked for the same car now (most with much higher mileages and sketchy histories) are double what the higher priced cars were up for in early 2020.

The idea FB marketplace is dying is utter rubbish. It’s by far and away the biggest venue for buying and selling online. It’s free, it’s convenient, and it’s analytics are actually quite good at showing you relevant items from your previous clicks. It took pretty much the entire gumtree market without even having to try, and probably 3/4 of what I see on eBay in my specialist searches is the stuff that was on marketplace a week or two before but at high prices. All the stuff that’s at the right price (or below) you wont even see advertised if you don’t use marketplace.
Ok it does have some limitations, mostly it’s obsession with geographic location, and the ability of the user to craft a coherent advert, but any outlet has that issue. but Learn how to use it properly in conjunction with some specialist groups so it shows you fairly relevant stuff without even having to search keywords and it’s great. You will pay significantly less for stuff on there than on eBay as 15% isn’t going in someone else’s pocket.
When it comes to the price of ‘stuff’ everything has shot up over the last two years. From work vans to motorbikes to classic projects, they all took a hike when people were locked up at home and wanted something to do. Wether the prices will drop again remains to be seen. As it stands they should be starting to fall by now, but they’re not. Maybe it’s lifestyle changes caused by people re-evaluating the way they were living pre-covid? Whatever it is the exact opposite happened of what was predicted, and unless people get desperate I can’t see them moving stuff on at a loss.,

Depending on what sort of bike you're after and what your budget is, there should be plenty on FB Marketplace from that period, I see quite a few 90s 600s going for less than £1500

Bought a bike from FB marketplace a couple of weeks ago, bargain, dead easy sale. Last 10 days I sold 2 cheap cars, again FB marketplace. There are a few motorbike sales pages and project bike sales pages on FB. I am contemplating selling my 1983 xj900f, if I do I would use owners forums and FB forums and ebay.
