There's a German expression "Geschmack saar" not sure if I have got the spelling right but it means quite simply, "A question of taste" and your comments concerning the grille aperture are a good illustration of how we all differ in our opinions which has to be a very good thing. And good too that you voice your opinions because they do make me stop and question what I've done and where I'm at. Sometimes it's difficult to see the wood for the trees being so closely involved and so it is helpful to be reminded of the big picture.
When I first saw the front on render (another great piece of work from Horrido) my reaction was "Wow". It is just as I was hoping for and confirmation that what I have in my mind is possible from what I have produced so far. I appreciate your thoughts and your suggestions of changes but for me, it looks absolutely right and not in any need of change. I wouldn't hesitate to scrap it and start again if I had any doubts but I'm really happy with how it is. Okay, there are detail changes I shall make from the drawing like the putting in the bonnet bulge and softening the valleys either side of the front wings but otherwise it is spot on.
I like the idea of lights in the corners of the grille and that's something I will look at.
Thank you all for your input.

A bit more progress that I'd like to share with you, this time on the radiator grille. It's a very simple construction using three components; 3/4 x 3/16 inch aluminium flat bar, 6mm diameter aluminium round tube and M3 studding. The 6mm tube was cut into 18.7mm long spacers and the studding sandwiching everything together. I made a simple jig from plywood to ensure that the spacers were the same length and it worked really well. I drilled a clearance hole for the tube into the plywood, right through, which was exactly 18.7mm wide and a separate piece of ply made the stop end. Inserting the tube and pushing hard against the stop I cut the tube with a hacksaw, all 64 lengths! It was vital that the 3mm holes through each slat aligned perfectly with each other but that was taken care of by drilling a master and using it as a pattern. I was very satisfying to be able to push the studding straight through all of the slats when separated without any force or bending needed.

Wow John the grill looks amazing! You’ve got this….. The German word is Geschmacksache btw. That's really kind of you, thank you so much and thank you too for giving me the correct spelling. I was hoping and expecting that one of our German speakers would enlighten me. I've never seen the word written down, only heard it in conversation but if I have understood it correctly it's spot on for describing our individuality.

I'm really glad you like it and I have to admit that I'm chuffed at the way it has come out. I obviously fluked the whole thing and I'm quite sure that I would never be able to pull it off a second time but then, I don't have to. It's an interesting thing that both the egg box grille and this one which are so simple in their construction can looks so darn good. I shall be pressing on with the mounting fixtures to attach the grille to the surround so that I can hang it back in place to see how it looks and to see if any of you chaps have changed your minds about it

Who says the grille has to stop there? Ultimately with this style of vehicle a lot of the presence of the front of the vehicle is not in the sheet metal work, but in the design of the grille, lights and bumper. For example, my car. If you strip away the trim, the front of the car is almost completely flat. There are very few defining features, certainly not enough to say "Oh, that's make/model X". Use the late fifties embellishment, to define a clean sixties style. Either way it's coming together nicely. Phil

You're building an Aston! Great work. No, it's not an Aston but certainly a nod to an Aston in the grille and the rear light arrangement. But if you look at this view it's more like a Marina Coupé which doesn't please me that much Resemblance to other marques have been mentioned by forum members which all goes to show that we all see things differently.

i wonder if a small Kamm tail would work john , to demarina-ize . That's a good call, thank you for that. It would certainly add a bit of character into what is, in my opinion, a featureless back end.

I really like the idea of a Kamm tail and I'm very grateful for the suggestion which I don't think I would have thought of. It shouldn't be difficult to form being single curvature made up of an upper and lower section welded together. Sounds easy, we'll see!
