Not really done much to the car recently. Waiting for my ramp to be clear at work so I can look at the oil leak, still! Gave it a good clean and fitted my German plates. Ive rescanned the car and I've had no more fault codes come back up. Pdc is still a bit dodgy. Probably the ebay sensors so I may swap them one by one. I finally fitted the dust caps by boys got me for my Bday to the car too. They love the car and now point out BMWs when we are out. Going to take the boys out for some rc car fun in the woods in the wkend so I imagine it will end up with muddy cars all round

Finally got some time to get the car back on a ramp at work. Got a Devon trip next wkend (500 mile round trip) so wanted to sort the oil leak out first. Stripped the oil filter housing off and wasn't surprised to find it caked in oil. Not a bad job at all. Should of done it when I did my vanos seals but as it was approaching midnight I just wanted to get home. Anyway, hope the gasket I've fitted is OK. Seems like it's a modified design The one I removed was a 2 piece gasket that turned into many more pieces when I tried to bend it Hopefully that's solved the oil leak and I can clean the driveway and keep the Mrs happy. There was a small patch of oil around the rear main but I'm hoping that's just stuff that has worked its way backwards. I'm still waiting on my Audi alloys to sell so I can get my paintwork done I've got the bumper in primer but want to get bonnet done at the same time Next was the towbar. Bumper off and I could remove the towbar and fit my 2nd hand rear bumper shocks These cars come apart so easy. They are a joy to work on compared to the modern stuff I do daily Clearly engineered by someone who realised they would need to come back apart at some point

All back together with no towbar. Rear pdc still playing up so I'll get some recommended sensors to shut that up Next was a suspension check over. Osf spring is rusty so I'll get them next. Rear subframe bushes have some big cracks but hardly any movement. I'm going to try get some private work in so I can stockpile suspension bits. I would prefer to wait and do in one hit rather than do in dribs and drabs. I may see how high my boss will let my work tab run and just order a full febi set up and pay it back out of my bonus. The other thing that will need sorting is the rear tailgate struts. The main ones are heavy and I don't trust them when the Mrs has the car. Can't have it falling down on here. Hopefully I'll get time for a clean and a polish on Sunday so I'll post some pics

Haven't done any work to the car. Just been using it as a van really. I'm picking up a bonnet on Sunday so that will go off to the bodyshop. They have done the bumper and will do the bonnet and blow the wings in too. I've got some tailgate struts I may try fit Sunday night. I've also got some vacuum pipes to change and I'm going to run the O2 pilot mod on my ccv to see what it does for fuel economy. Oil consumption has stopped since my oil filter housing gasket change, and it seems to still be dry underneath.

As I'm getting a new front bumper I wanted to get the chips and rust on bonnet sorted. When my paint guy looked at bonnet he said it would be better to start with a rust free bonnet as mine was crusty on the edge. I'm planning on owning this car for years so it makes sense. Found a bonnet 45 mins away so bought that. Accidentally ended up buying a set of style 37 reps in need of a refurb as well. They were 150 and I'm going to get them blasted and powder coated one colour as polishing will be mega moneys Went to open my tailgate glass in the hear earlier and it did nothing. Thats annoying. Planning on doing my tailgate struts some time this week so I'll check wiring then. I've read stories online of having to drill the trim to manually move the lever. Looks like I'd better find someone breaking a touring

Finally got round to doing my tailgate struts. They have always been heavier than I would of liked. I went for febi parts as I get a good price and I can stick them on my work account Tailgate glass was OK but it makes sense to change all 4 So inside my genuine Febi parts bags, from a trusted supplier were Stabilus items. Stabilus is known to be the best brand to get so I'm not fussed. Febi must either just repackage and distribute them? Or maybe they are the same company? I had changed a set of these many years ago when I was just a young lad at a tyre shop 😳 Nice and easy to do with a thin torch and a long lever bar. Now the boot tries to take your chin off on the way up rather than land on your head. My bonnet is in primer and hopefully going on by the wkend. I need to find some time to fit my bumper and arch liners as the duct tape makes it look like a shed Gave it a good clean inside as it's just been used a tip run car recently.

Good news. Managed to get the car on the ramp for a check over before a Devon trip at wkend. While it was in the air I managed to run the vacuum pipes for the 02 pilot mod. I saw online to use 3mm tube. That's ridiculously small so I'm going to redo it in a nice yellow 4mm tube eventually. Also the bonnet is painted so I can finally get the new bumper and the bonnet fitted. Bad news. Osf shock is starting to weep. Plus I want to lower it, so that is going to get expensive. Also have still got an oil leak from the rear main. It gets worse. Decided to peel back the sill covers as I could see they were crusty. They aren't rotten but they will certainly need some attention sooner rather than later. Hopefully got some private jobs coming up so obviously I'll spend that money on the most important things first. Refurbing the 18s I got for it

Finally got time to fit my bumper. The duct tape on the old one was making me hate the car. The old bumper came off nice and easy The old arch liners were pretty much non existent but I had bought some ebay specials. They look like quite a hard plastic so I imagine they will shatter easy if caught. Not a bad fit tho to be fair. Went on ok after some trimming. I went for an Mstyle M5 style bumper It didn't have the headlight washers as they sent the wrong bumper. Think I'm gonna delete them as I like the cleaner look without. I'm also going to remove the intensive washer bottle as mine is a bit worse for wear. If you fit e60 washer jets you can remove all the extra pipework too I will fit my number plate but not on the original plate platform. While in the air I found the source of my knocking. Nsf arb d Bush so they will get done next week. Going to throw a pair of Kyb shocks and febi top mounts on there too as the osf is leaking. Still haven't got lowering springs so that's something I need to sort first. Seeing the car looking good has made me very happy. I need to get some overtime in and get my 18s refurbished. That and stop spending money on rc cars

For the last couple of weeks I've had intermittent heater issues. Sometimes not working at all. Sometimes cutting in an out. A quick read online suggested the heater resistor so I ordered a Febi unit from work Nice and easy to replace. It helps if you look in the drivers footwell and not the passengers side. The old unit was a BMW part and had a crack in it so I'm confident that was the problem. The blowers work on command how. Just need to have a look at the heated screen now I'm not sure what to do about the front number plate. I really don't want to ruin the clean look so I may just leave it off until I'm told otherwise Next on the list is the front suspension. I've got a knocking front arb bush so I've got a pair of febi bushes waiting. I've waiting for autodoc prices to drop again and I'll order a pair of eibachs springs as well. I can get shocks on my work account so will do shocks and dust covers at the same time I still need to stop playing with rc cars and get my 18s refurbed

I have a vacuum leak somewhere so I'm going to go through and change bits. I've got some new vacuum pipes, in yellow. Going to pull the inlet off again and renew anything that looks perished. I've decided to swap the 530i intake for a 330i pipe so it deletes the resonator. Sounds a bit louder at mid range. Increasing fuel costs and fuel shortages really make me question getting a 3 litres straight 6 🤣🤣 I think I'm going to try buy a little daily so I can pull this apart next winter and sort some rust proofing and suspension refresh.

I've got a massive flat spot at low revs and a few vanos codes which I believe point to the solenoid on the exhaust cam. I changed the vanos seals a while back so it shouldn't be that. I have got a spare solenoid and I have cleaned and tested it today so going to try swap that this week. I also bought a 32mm box spanner as the sockets I have aren't deep enough. Unfortunately this wasn't the same size all the way so I had to adapt something from a Toyota yaris exhaust The plan is to remove and clean all the gubbins in both solenoids and check they work. Remove and clean the oil line and then to run a Tunap engine flush and replace the filter and refill with a sump full of castrol. Hopefully Mr Vanos Remover does the trick as my car is pitifully down on power
