My wife and I bought our first 2CV6 when my son was about 4 or 5. He is 30 now. It was a really nice red one. We sold it after a few years and went back to 1 car. No problem in Holland. Work was only 5 minutes on the pushbike. A few years later we bought a blue one. We didn't have that very long but it was followed soon by another red one. We sold that about year before we left for Australia. We really liked our 2CV's. So much so that a trip around Europe was made in our 2CV leaving the 2 year old Saab 900 Turbo at home in the garage. 2CV's are very expensive over here. A decent one will set you back anything between the $20.000 and $40.000 if you want the best. However I have always wanted another one but never had the funds. Funds are still tight but this little beauty came up for $12000 I had a look at it and was able to point out in a friendly manner that the seller was selling a pile of $h1t..... To be honest it needs work, welding and some electric work. But it's all there and comparing to the welding you guys are used to.....it's all not that bad. Anyway, I don't like to make offers there and then. I offered him $8000 a few days later. He did not like it but did came back after a week or so and accepted my offer. So, if all goes to plan we will be picking up this thing tomorrow morning!! Cheers

Plan is to get it on the road asap. Get the rust repaired and get it painted. The indicators don't work and a few other things need looking at.

Cool. Bookmarked. You have the climate now where your welded repairs will last more than an afternoon. 😃👍

My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...

I have found lots more rust but, I hope, nothing to serious. For some reason it has 2 ignition switches. 1 original with the key stuck in it and a second one you start the car with. The wipers don't work, Indicators don't work Horn doesn't work Fuel gauge doesn't work Hand brake doesn't work properly Airco ;-) flap needs looking at Gear stick needs adjusting and most of all it's only running on 2 cylinders!!!

We had a massive day yesterday. My son got the key to his house and we helped him move all his gear. What a day it was. This morning I cleaned out the garage, moved the jetski's making room for the 2CV. It fits!!

Look at this air horn....It might blow of the doors....if they would work. Anyway the have to go. It's a mess under the bonnet. I'll do some clean up soon. I'll ask a friend, who is an upholsterer, if he can rescue my seat.

Wazzz thizzz thing? Not sure if this is a trick question after you've said you've had them for so many years before... that's your coil! Have a look on ecas2cv parts website and consider upgrading to the yellow Harley coil, much more reliable - equally try to only use the ignition leads that come with that or bougicords. Strictly NGK plugs and you might consider a 123 electronic ignition to replace the points. You've probably seen my supercharged BMW flat twin powered 2cv on the forum here (due a mega update on the thread soon after some legal wrangling I'm in at the moment) but I've had it since I was 16 as a 602 for 12 years before big BMW power. Still got a 602 in another machine so pretty up to date with all 2cv upgrades and the best way to keep them alive. I am curious, is yours a French or Portuguese built one? Where will you source your replacement panels from? Do you have a 2cv parts supplier in Aus or do you buy from abroad from Ecas / Cassis?

Thank you for your reply.
Not a trick question...I had that thing in my hands, seen it before, just did not see it. Now you mentioned I had a "off course it is, you dumb..." moment
I haven't bought any parts yet. I have a growing shopping list though. First I want to get all electrics working. I've got the horn working. Now I need to work out the blinkers and wipers. Fuel gauge doesn't work either.
Most of my family live Holland and getting parts in Holland is no problem. However I have found a fair few parts suppliers here in Australia.
I signed up for 2 Citroen clubs and a few forums/Facebook sites.
I know of your car. Follow your build and other builds. The other day my son showed me a YouTube video of your car. I think it was a hill climb race or something. He told me that he loved your car. When I showed him your built he was surprised that I already knew your car.
Thanks

Thanks No worries, hit me up with any other questions, I'm offshore for a month so plenty of time to answer and the forum is keeping me sane, I've almost certainly been there and done that with most aspects of a 2cv - probably more than once or twice to - 19 years of ownership now! Most probably earths for the electrics. A note on headlights once you come to those, don't be tempted to upgrade to modern bulbs (from the 40/45 watt originals) as there are no relays in the system it all goes through the headlight switch - this can take a light upgrade (no pun intended) to these 55/60 watt but no more or else the headlight switch itself will get too hot, start smoking, fill the car with smoke and melt the wires - ask me how I know: ecas2cvparts.co.uk/collections/light-bulbs-12v/products/bulb-headlight-halogen-high-power-556watt-p45t-flange-all-2cv6-also-available-in-pack-of-4-see-notes-phb12With the fuel gauge there is a join as the cabling goes through a grommet in the floor behind the rear seat close to the inner wing on the passenger side (inside the car). It's probably come apart or needs a little cleaning of the join with some rolled up sand paper - or the earth on the tank is rusted to curse word. If the gauge is inaccurate or stuck at one point then it is the metal tangs on the float level of the sender unit - I replace these once every couple of years I'd say - ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS buy the Valeo sender unit - this is the OEM one citroen used, all the others are poor quality replacements and never last. It will be a pain getting this out of the fuel tank though as the screws are always rusted to curse word. Get new screws and gaskets - also always replace this bit of fuel line here as it always gets forgotten as it's tucked out of the way. Make a really thorough inspection of the brake lines when you are back here too, the one you can't see is the curly coiled up one inside the rear axle tube - best to replace with the body off the car but doable with the body on. Rear drum cylinders probably need replacing too, easy enough job, hopefully your adjusters are also not rusted to curse word. Have you inspected the toe board on both sides (where the floors come up to the front bulkhead) this is a two piece inner and outer panel and loves to crumble away to rusty nothingness - a body off job. Also the rear seat belt mounts and where the inner rear wings attach to the bodyshell near the main strengthening hoop. Otherwise a check of the kingpins - do they need replacing - at least a thorough greasing - and the same with the track rod ends (take them apart fully to grease them). Redline light weight shockproof gear oil (the yellow bottle) recommended for the gearbox - it's keeping my supercharged BMW powered box alive and I use it in my other 2cv boxes too. Good to know about the 2cv clubs and parts supply situation over there - if you get stuck I would recommend ECAS 2cv parts in the UK and 2cvGB club for info and cracking magazines and publications available - some great owners guide. Ha! Ahh great, I am honored! Please say thanks. That is funny, Green Car is my favorite possession and creation. Check out immersion eleven racing on youtube, there are a few videos there.

I haven't done much with the Citroen at all. I still can't get the wipers to work. I found out that the hazard switch is faulty/broken. This might be linked to the indicators not working. I have found someone about 2 hours North from my place that speaks 2CV6. I hope to catch up with him next week. He has offered me a very rusty 2CV6. It's apparently complete but very rusty. He wants 5K for it. If it was 1.5K I would have been in the car already. I can by a lot of new parts and import them from GB and NL for $5000. Anyway, I have 3 bedrooms waiting to be painted before the new carpet goes in. Then I need to move some furniture around. When that is all done my darling will be very happy with me and I will have some time to play with my new toy. Ohh, I forgot I bought some Citroen books that might come in handy.

Our house got hit hard last hailstorm. As we have a tin roof we ended up with many many dents in our roof. The insurance paid us out and we replaced the roof. Then we painted 3 bed rooms and a bathroom, got new carpets etc etc blah blah...so no time for this girl. Well today I had another bit of a look. She needs some work and rectification. She has been restored in the past.....by blind Freddie and his mates This is somewhere towards the front underneath the car

I am not sure what to do. I know of a 2CV6 that is for sale. It will go for $15000. It's a UK import same as mine. It looks really great. Had a lot of work done. It's more or less ready to go. My one needs a lot of work. But I only paid $8000. I can easily spend $7000 on mine and I presume it will be than as good as the one I know to be for sale. I could buy the one that is ready to go and sell mine. I will get my money back if not make a tiny bit. The same person has also a new chassis, maybe that's the way to go.
I think that I need to get a quote on the welding first before I go any further. I might be way off regarding the cost of welding. Up or down.
I have a contact in Belgium for parts. They are not overly expensive. I am now looking at about $1100 in small parts.
Will see

If you want something to drive now buy the $15K one. If you want a project to keep you busy over the next year or so keep going. Or... Life short... Buy the $15K one and keep tinkering on the $8k one, sell one when you have both going and have the best of both worlds and some cash. See. I can spend other peoples money not just Grizz's... P.
