Two thoughts: 1. Likely the only way to do the rusty one and not run out of money quickly will be to learn how to do the metal work yourself. When you’re paying someone else, getting it done properly- key word - will be super-expensive. Buy a MIG and learn how to use it. 2. Make sure you thoroughly examine the “better” car with steely, unsentimental eyes. Take a car friend to help give it the once-over? Make sure it is as good as it’s claimed to be; if it came from Britain it’s likely been rusty at some point?
Offered respectfully, John

I am getting 2 quotes for repairs on the 2CV. Saturday will be the first and my gut feeling says that this will be the one I will go for or with. Not that I don't like the other one but they are people that built 250K+ cars and their clients have much deeper pockets than I have. But we will see. I am looking forward to get an idea about costs. Even if they burst my bubble that doesn't worry me. At least I know where to go from there. I am not after a concourse car. That doesn't work for me. I will get to scared to park it anywhere. I want to be able to use it.

Wow, I just got a bit of a reality check I think....I got the quote in on getting the 2CV restored.
However, I am not overly worried about it. It just answer a question. I think I might look at a new chassis and learn to weld myself. Maybe a do course or so
Citreon 2CV6 restoration : Owner to strip vehicle and supply rust panels. Repair/replace all rust in vehicle, chassis and panels. 0.00 Cab/chassis repairs 15,000.00 Panel repairs 8,000.00 Paint in red or white (owner to decide) solid 2K as discussed. 10,000.00 Sand blast vehicle, panels back to base metal. 3,000.00 TOTAL: $36,000.00 No GST has been charged

Plainly they don't want the work! I would look at what you want from this; a decent 2cv to drive and enjoy soonest or a project ending in the same after a lot of work (and some money!) but a sense of achievement. The $15k car will have rotted at some point if ex-UK as the salt used on the roads in winter hangs about in the spring. As jjeffries suggests caveat emptor if you go to see the $15k car.

If you want a top quality full 2cv restoration in the UK, to give you an idea of comparable costs, it would be around 10-15k GBP. Although panels are relatively reasonable they are labour intensive to work on.

If you want something to drive now buy the $15K one. If you want a project to keep you busy over the next year or so keep going. Or... Life short... Buy the $15K one and keep tinkering on the $8k one, sell one when you have both going and have the best of both worlds and some cash. See. I can spend other peoples money not just Grizz's... P. Thank you for spending my money! I love spending someone's money. Easy done hey! But you are right, life is short, it's only money etct etc. I have messaged the owner of that nice 2CV and he is warming up to the idea of really selling it. He bought another car the other day and could use the money. I have my wife's blessing to buy the other one and tinkering with the one I have. I am going to have a look at a new chassis this weekend as well. The good thing is that I am unemployed and have loads of time to tinker. Down is I do not have an income....I am sure we will work something out.

This is how my bonnet hinge is repaired This is how it should be Although the white one doesn't sit perfect this is how it should be. I don't know the right terminology but there should be 2 channels sliding into each other. My one is just chopped of. Then they just installed 2 door hinges and made it work. Well, that's not good enough. I understand that a replacement panel is available and I am looking in to this. I bought a new chassis yesterday picking it up on Thursday. I naively brought my 6x4ft trailer. We did not needed to check it would fit....so I am picking it up on Thursday with a long canoe trailer. See you later

'It looks really great. Had a lot of work done.' I think we have all seen cars with that description and found them to be different to the description. It is your decision but you like working on your car and want to do yours and finish it to the best you can then stick with yours. If you want to drive a 2CV tomorrow then buy the restored one but beware it m ight not be all it seems. Whatever decision you make will be best for you.

2CV ownership is rather like Triumph ownership..... really helps to have a MIG welder in your toolbox......
Once you have one and have acquired basic skills (not hard), you’ll wonder why you didn’t buy one years ago!

I am not waiting for the "restored" 2CV6. If the owner has made up his mind he will let me know. This might take another few months, who knows. So, in the mean time I keep working on this one. My thought at the moment is to replace the chassis, have the body professionally repaired and I will do doors, bonnet etc. My thinking is, if I stuff up the body I am in trouble. If I stuff up a door I can get another one if need be.
I am reading up on MIG welders. I have a cheap MIG gas-less welder. I have used that one a few times with a nice variation of successes.....

Holidays are done and dusted. New job started after a gap year of 3.5 years and back into it! Yesterday I finally started pulling my little 2CV6 apart It didn't take much to get to this stage. I might get some more done tomorrow. However I might go for a drive and look at a Mitsubishi Delica. It's cheap and I might be able to do a quick flip to fund this project.

I haven't done much with the 2CV6. I have been distracted by many things. I bought an electric bike that needed some love. We went away for a few days again. I gone back to work. That really takes a lot of free time away. And I have many other excuses for not working on the 2CV and next weekend is not looking good either as I just bought this thing I bought it cheap and my idea was to make a quick few bucks. I never take my wife car shopping. She has no interest in "quick flip" cars. But this time I didn't feel driving all the way to Brisbane so we went together. We took it for a test drive and she fell instantly in love, let her fantasy go and saw an awesome little camper van happening before her eyes..... So, we might keep it a bit longer. She can do the inside, I'll do the outside and see what happens. I found out that it has a very common wheel size (114.3 PCD). The same as many Japanese cars and some nice wheel won't brake the bank. We wont do much this weekend as we have tickets for a large caravan show in town for tomorrow and Sunday is a busy day too. But it will happen.

After an extensive search for the right set of wheels for very little money I found these beauties!! These are Hurricane 14 inch woppers. I bought new 205 65 14 tires with a nice white side wall. I personally love it. I hope to get it registered next week.

That is looking great on those wheels
I rarely say “Lower” but it seems a bit lower may just work to improve the looks even more.

I am not sure if I want to lower it. I don't mind the way it is. Also the drive way at work from the gate to the office is 1.7KM and very rutted.
Anyway, although I am not finished with this car I am not sure what to do with it.
My daily is currently a 2002 Honda Odyssey 3.0 V6 Automatic. Its a top of the line model. It's very comfortable and pretty fast. Nice and quiet and good on fuel. I don't mind driving it at all. Besides a very small power steer line leak there is nothing wrong with this car.
My wife's daily is a 2006 Honda Odyssey 2.4 Automatic. Its a top of the line model. It's very comfortable and pretty fast. Nice and quiet and good on fuel. I don't mind driving it at all. There is nothing wrong with this car.
We have more or less 2 the same white cars on the drive way. On top of that we have the Nissan Patrol camper and the 2CV in the garage. The 2CV, Patrol and my wife's Honda are not going anywhere. They are keepers.
I don't want another car on the drive way. So, what to do. Sell the Suzuki and make a few dollars. Sell my Honda and make a few dollars. At this point I am still thinking of selling the Suzuki when done. But it's such a fun little bus.....I am really looking forward driving it.
Anyway, I am finishing the bed in the back tomorrow.
Cheers
