I'll not bore anyone going on about my love of Datsun/Nissan Stanzas. If you've followed my other threads, you'll just know. After finding the 'Holy Grail' 3 door in the last couple of weeks, I couldn't have imagined my luck would stretch even further...but would you know it....my luck has stretched further. A 62k mile 4 door non-runner Now that is great, but during these weird times, a low mileage 4 door non-runner wouldn't have made me part with any cash.....unless it had the (in)famous full red Stanza interior! Oh yes folks, I've hit the bullseye again....and here it is on collection... The car is a non-runner due to it missing it's carburettor (at least). Said carburettor was taken and donated to a Stanza that used to enter classic rallies in the last couple of years. The owner sold the rally car, so had no need for this one. It's last MOT only expired in 2019, so unlike my 5 door (sat in a garage for 32 years) and my 3 door (sat in a garage for 21 years), this one was on the road until quite recently. Here it is once it was delivered. It was cold and dark... I couldn't wait to get to the yard to have a look round the car this morning. It's been stood outside for a couple of years, so it's a bit green in places... Some bits and pieces in the boot. These might be needed as I can't get the bonnet open for now, so I'm not sure how much there is under there, and how much is missing... It has a couple of broken rear taillight clusters, but don't forget, I have a 4 door parts donor, so better condition parts can be swapped on... Right. I think some of you might be interested to see some interior pics. It's the reason I bought the car really. A subject that I have had a few conversations about at car shows over the years..... it's red.... Oh yes... I told you it was red... Separate radio and cassette players again... can you tell I'm happy?... Not the best pic, but the head lining is as red as the rest of it... Outside again, and the door bottoms, a known area to watch on these, are really quite good... Arches/sill ends are quite good too... So here we have 12 Stanza doors, spread over three cars. I wonder when the last time the three body styles were together in the one place? A bit more red anyone?... A better pic of the red roof lining... A bit more green to calm down the red... Three Stanzas again, with added V70 and Tomcat... Although there's no dealer sticker, it does still have it's original plates... the wording on the rear plate is faded, but still there... Front on treble... So, as I usually finish my initial threads with a plan of attack, here we go... It's a non-runner, we know that. I do have a 4 door parts donor car, with a low mileage, and running (when last tried) 53k engine and lots of parts such as rear light clusters. My plan is to see what's with the car engine wise, get a full engine put together in some way, clean it up and get it on the road as it is. It doesn't need paint, as it looks pretty good, although whether I'm still thinking that after my 3 door goes back to it's original blue metallic and looks mint, I'll have to wait and see. It would be quite cool to have mint examples of all three body styles though. This one just has to be done though due to that interior! After landing the three door, and now this one, perhaps I should put the lottery on this weekend...

One thing I've just noticed from the photos is that it's only a four speed manual. I've never seen one that wasn't five speed. Stanzas went on sale in 1981, and this one was registered in February 1982, so quite an early one.

So the answer to the question "Where did all the Stanzas go?" Seems to be Cleveland!

I dunno - I ask about whether there are any 4-door Stanzas left, and Geordie says he has one but it's a parts car. Then he buys another one. Does this make it my fault?

Wow. Just wow. After seeing your collection on faceache and then being linked to here, I didn't expect to lose forty minutes on reading about this rare little lot. I thought the three door was my favourite, but the saloon looks just right too in its proportions. And that interior is something else! I can't believe even the headlining is red too. It really is the polar opposite of a standard Stanza interior - restrained and sensible vs 'look at me - you can't miss me!' Amazing. Did the bronze Stanza stay local? I do hope you've had chance to layer some form of underbody protection on the keepers to keep the Datsun nibblers away.

There is talk of him downsizing his fleet.... :-)

My earliest car memory was my dad bringing home a brand new Nissan Stanza in 1986. It's pretty remarkable that I remember it as I would have been less than 2 years old, but I can remember it pretty vividly. In particular, the bright red interior exactly like that!
It was a C Reg, 5 door hatch in white. He was looking at getting a MK2 Cavalier Hatch, but someone recommended he have a look at the Stanza as it was a similar shape, so he went to the local Nissan Dealer, which was quite a large set-up and the salesmen just told him to take their demonstrator. He asked how long he should keep it for and asked if an hour was OK and he was told by the salesman, no just keep it for a few days! It ended up being used for a trip to the Safari Park and a monkey pulled the end off the aerial. Nothing was said though and he ordered one. At the same time, a near neighbour bought a used yellow Y-Reg 3 Door Stanza from the same dealer.
I remember the day the car came home and the bright red interior and even the smell of it. God knows how as I was only a baby really, but its first journey was a holiday to Wales. We used to stay in a Caravan on a farm belonging to an acquaintance and I remember the farmer looking at the car and commenting as it only had 100-odd miles on the clock.
About a month later, the dealer contacted my dad to tell him to stop using the car as there had been some kind of mix-up and the car had the wrong registration plates on it and there was another car driving round with the same reg, so they had to be changed. Luckily, this happened just before it was booked to have the windows etched!
Quite an eventful ownership and the only time I think my dad has ever personally bought a brand new car and he's owned over 1000 cars in a very long driving life! He had it less than a year before changing into a nearly new XJ6, but shortly after this he did buy a fleet of Bluebirds for his business at the time, so dealt with the Nissan dealer for a few year afterwards.
I would love to find a late, white C-Reg Stanza with red interior, if you ever saw one, but that's very unlikely I'm sure!

As I alluded to in the opening post, this car was purchased by the previous owner as a parts donor to a classic rally entrant. Here's a pic of them together... I'd heard that the silver one had donated a carburettor (at least) to the rally car, so I was a bit wary about what I'd find under the bonnet when I could get it open, which needs two people, one to pull, one to jiggle! Anyway, I was quite surprised to find a mostly complete engine bay, minus a dizzy cap at first glance... The previous owner found the original alloys that were on the green rally car when he bought it, and offered them to me. Well, I couldn't say no. They're very similar to the Pardat ones on the white 3 door... Another bonus was to receive some paperwork in the post, which included the original service book containing plenty of stamps up to 46k miles (currently on 62k)

Congratulations! However, the red interior makes me wonder in what kind of Hotels the Japanese engineers where staying in the 70's and 80's while engineering Datsuns for the European market.. ;-). If you are interested in the Dutch parts I could make some enquiries for you. Rotterdam is 150Km; from my home but there is no North Sea between it ;-).

If you've read this thread, you'll know that this car was bought by the previous owner as a parts donor for a classic rally Stanza. I've now managed to get my hands on the original wheels that were on the green rally Stanza before it became the rally car! They're original Pardat/Datsun, and pretty much identical to the ones on the 3 door, with the only difference the black centre area and black insides of the circles. They'll need a refurb obviously. Then again, I might end up putting them on the bronze 5 door that I'm getting back.

I haven’t seen these cars since I was 10 in 1992! An old neighbour had one, stunk of petrol on a hot day parked outside by the road when you walked passed it....

Those Pardat alloys have washed up nicely. A bit more light resto and they will be very smart. Before a wash And after
