Thanks Shielsy. In the end I wussed out and cut the end out of the existing one. Its not resto quality, but it's also no longer a rusty hole. I'll try and get pictures tomorrow. I think my goal for now is to get it solid and MOTable then enjoy it for a couple of years while I save up and then take it off the road again and properly go through it. Take the body off the pan and go to town on it all. There's a lot of bits that are solid, but not very pretty. Plus I would like to do some more cosmetic things like getting rid of the fuel flap on the front quarter.

I'm beginning to realise why I never have successful project threads, because I never take photos! I'll try and take some tomorrow! I did take one of the welder Its much better than the SIP. Just far more consistent. I didn't have to reset the wire feed once!

I went for Hobbyweld 5, mainly because there is a dealer less than 3 miles from my house and it seemed the best fit for my needs. It seems good although I am going to upgrade my regulator.

Had the same one for six years now and it's done some serious amount of work. Only change I've made to it was to fit a "professional" earth clamp, otherwise, it just keeps plugging away.
Chris.

Get a regulator with a gauge , it will really help . Agreed, I'm going to order one on Monday when the shops open again. Had the same one for six years now and it's done some serious amount of work. Only change I've made to it was to fit a "professional" earth clamp, otherwise, it just keeps plugging away. Chris. Good to hear! I went with it on recommendation of my good friend and I have to say I'm really happy, the quality is better than my last welder in every department!

Stupidly i should have recommended a flow gauge as well , i am so used to seeing the two together that i suggested the wrong thing .
Yes a flow gauge is much better , you could save some money and get a single gauge regulator and a flow gauge . Flow gauge is key to not wasting gas and getting the best welds .

So would the 2 stage one I linked further up be OK? With pressure guage and flow guage?

I have that exact regulator bought from the same supplier - he's a really nice guy to deal with but I've added a flow meter because the regulator just doesn't tell you how much gas is flowing

The flow meter is marked litres per minute and when connected up makes a little ball float when gas is running through . It has a small nob on the side to adjust the flow with. You will be able to google a litre per minute [ LPM ] figure for doing car bodywork somewhere , I'm not much use as I'm more tig welding.
