Well from Heritage I have ordered Left hand side Engine mount panel. Left and Right hand side Boot floor repair panels Right hand side rear crossmember I also managed to pick up a pair of inner arches from facebook marketplace: So only panel I really need now is a driverside floor pan. I have seen a pair again on marketplace that I may go for. Wish I'd spotted this thread earlier qwerty, if you look on YouTube for a guy called Dan Chambers he's sponsored by heritage and has a 10% discount code. Search for Dan Chambers mk1 golf gti if nothing else his channel is worth a watch Cheers I'll have a look. I daresay I'll be going back to Heritage for stuff in the future ....... a lot 😂

Returned home to a package with another couple of panels Inner wheelarch/engine mount for passenger side and driverside rear crossmember. I won't be using the whole panels, just unpicking them to use the parts I need. Which leads me to ask, any recommendations for spot weld drill bits? Just awaiting the arrival of the under seat repair panels now. Hoping to pop and get gas either tomorrow or Friday. Tom

Mega cool project! That's not rust, just some speed holes haha
Be mega once you have it all stitched up. Loved my Beetle, great to drive, had a roller coaster of issues with it initially, but replaced the carb the day I sold it and it had never driven better. Doh.
Found some holes in mine and turned out the previous owner had fiberglassed the floor pans in... That was a nightmare i didn't see coming!
Looking forward to seeing more updates.

My old bug. That looks really cool with the chop! I've picked up a bottle of gas today so hopefully I'll make some progress over the next week or so.

Brought the interior home from the workshop. It was fairly filthy and Soph had bought some stuff to try cleaning it. Thought I would give it a quick try: So got carried away and did the whole drivers seat

That came up really nice. What sort of stuff did you use? Mines got black interiour, so that masks the dirt perfectly, but I would still like to clean it thoroughly like you did.

I used a mixture of Pink Stuff Paste and Elbow Grease paste, about 90p a tub in B&M. My wife had seen them recommended by Mrs Hinch, I was really impressed.

That Pink Stuff is really good, I've nicked some of that off my missus to clean my carb bodies.

I spent a lot of time today practicing my welding by making a trolly for my welder Its made it even more apparent that I need a better welder. I'm having the typical SIP wire feed issues, despite replacing the liner and bracing the wire feed mechanism. I weld an inch and then the wire feed craps out and either bird nests or spits the wire out. So I'm looking to upgrade. I'm looking at either a Clarke 135te: www.machinemart.co.uk/p/135te-turbo-mig-welder/Or A Sealey Supermig 150: www.ffx.co.uk/product/Get/Sealey-Supermig150-5024209663205-230V-Professional-Mig-Welder-150Amp#FPDI'm swaying towards the Sealey as a good friend has a Sealey Supermig 190 and swears by it and it comes with a regulator for a proper bottle, which I have. What are peoples thoughts?

I was looking at both of those welders and also the clarke 151. But ended up buying a cheap Uptime inverter mig for half the price and couldnt be more happy.

Worth a read through here: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/216772/mig-welder-recommendationsThere’s a link to another useful thread. Most people recommend the R Tech MIG welder, it’s £500 but you can get it interest free with a decent deposit. I had a Sealey SuperMig 150 when I used to work in the trade, had 2 over the years, work really well and would also weld thick stuff

I worry about the longevity and the ease of getting parts. Worth a read through here: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/216772/mig-welder-recommendationsThere’s a link to another useful thread. I've read so many threads that my head is spinning now Tom

Which usually means that they are all pretty much as good as each other!

Have you tried a new roll of wire, I once had all sorts of problems with my old clarke, turned out the wire had a slight dusting of surface rust.

I think you've well and truly hit the nail on the head there. I just need to be less of an idiot and pull the trigger on one of them.

Yeah it's had a new roll of wire and still the same issues. I spent ages cleaning all the rollers, setting the tension etc etc. I think they're just curse word. I juat wish I had done more research when I originally bought it, for £20 more I could have bought something much better.

For bodywork thickness welding it's easier to just do loads of 'tack' welds anyway, just pulse the trigger as you move along the join. Might mean you can get it sorted with your current welder.
