Asked the following question……… I have a pair of Makita cordless drills and three dying batteries plus two chargers that craigrk gave me a few years ago when he found a pile of them on the sidewalk near his house. They work well as cordless drills as long as the battery lasts, however, all of it, including chucks are well worn, and to be honest even frustrating at times. Mickey next door has a cordless Makita impact driver which is an absolute gem, blows my mind every time I use it. I am looking to buy a new pair, drill and impact driver (I do have a large mains, corder Clarke unit that is a brute) The impact will probably work mainly on woodwork, and the odd mechanical job, speeding up fitting back nuts and bolts with a small adapter. I am not particularly brand loyal, as I have had B&Q “Power” and McCulloch branded items before that were perfectly adequate and fit for purpose. I cannot recall what, but seem to recall Dez recently replaced some of his cordless tools, maybe Dewalt? I know Milwaukee is having massive success right now as they are on all the Nat-Geo television programs etc. Anyway, advice, tips and pointers appreciated on what to look for and avoid. I am probably more of an occasional hobby type user, so it would not be charged 2-3 times a day like the guys on a building site or workshop. BUT….. I do like and prefer Pro-type tools that are half decent and can last. Had some answers, Anyone got a spectacular contact for a “best price” I would buy a DCD796 £62 & DCF887 w/ 2x2aH £130 I am happy to go with the deals posted by sLowered forum.retro-rides.org/thread/219931/cordless-drill-impact-same-batteryThanks.

Almost the weekend. Been a busy (rough) work week and I planned on bailing out by 2.00pm but typically I was still at it by 4.15 Keep in mind I start by 07.00 most days. Bought myself a couple of tools, since my one is dying, and the other I do not have. *****I would bought DCD796 £62 & DCF887 w/ 2x2aH £130 as one gets confused with the variable offers out there, and at the end of the day, I am kinda a Hobbyist at best, and these specs seem to deliver for most hobby guys out there. *****Hope to get back onto the Rezin Rockit tomorrow. .

Hi Rian, I had DeWalt kit some years back, (until some thieving scr*te relieved me of them,) and found them to be reasonably robust and a good all round piece of kit for, as you state, the "hobbyist", Nigel

I think I will keep my eyes open for a 4-5ah unit on offer when it appears. In the mean time……. They will be a great addition to my non functional and non existent units.

………………and then I ground to a halt. I had hoped to finish work early (flexi-time) today so that I could get a start on the final chapter of the bushes. Then work kicked me in the nuts, hard. When it gets busy I just need to keep going, so by 4.30 it wound down. Also realised that I will need to disassemble some of the work I did before. Too many obstructions and retainers. I will try find some time tomorrow, but we are planning a bit of a run out in the S10 that has not been out much lately as I have spent a lot of time at home. .

Seems Photobucket feels I am loading too many photos for the contract I have.
So it is not loading my photos.
At the tariff I pay as it is, I am not going to have them extort another $xxx or whatever it is out of me. They get about $xxx/year from me.
As far as I know I am on the intermediate tariff which equates 25000 photos.
But for now it seems pics are on hold.

At the first sign of Bucket Trouble I deleted all my pics out of my account, and tried to repair my various build threads as well as I could.
That seemed like a much better solution than giving in to money grabbing tactics.
Because it you let it happen once, it will more than likely happen again...

I have messaged them to challenge this action. Problem for me is that they are like quicksand. Been with them all my internet life so all my threads are in there. I will not pay more.

What I will be paying more for is to replace the top and bottom ball joints if I can source them (not available at Eurocarparts) it seems.
The splitter managed to mangle to ones I dismantled today.
Weirdly, one has a screw in where a grease nipple may have lived before.
Still need to order the new brake discs, calipers and pads to replace what mess is left of the original front brakes.
Jobs for this week.

I ran into the same thing with a previous employer.
The kind that will tell you you're family, until its more beneficial to screw you over.
So when he did, I let it escalate right up to the point where he said "or else" ( or else meaning you are fired)
I knew that if I'd give him that success, it would happen again.
And it did.
But that time I told him, " OK, I'm done"
Because by then I had used the extra time to arrange for a better alternative.
My replacement "right hand man" actively sabotaged the place, and the shop went under within the year...
After that, what to do with the inconvenience caused by the Bucket people, was a easy decision.

I have been watching your coil spring removal endavour and thougtht I should offer a tip. The front suspension from the cortina is similar to the Granada Mk1 and Mk1. I usually start by compressing the springs using two clamps: www.amazon.com/Hiltex-50604-Compressors-Heat-Treated-Suspension/dp/B002GQD2P6This is to prevent the lower arm beeing pulled down too hard when I remove the damper. I then remove the hub carrier. This mean I have to undo the top and bottom ball joints. I usually make at tool using some bolts and sockets to press them out without damaging the rubber boots. The bottom ball joint has some bolts that also hold the caster rod and the stabilizer bar. Those both need to be disconnected from the lower suspension arm to allow enough trave to free the spring. I then compress the spring enought to get it free from the suspension arm. This arm will have to be pushed down a fair bit to allow the spring to clear a lip. I don't think you will be able to remove the spring unless you follow a similar path. Your spring compression tool will probably not allow you to remove the spring as I believe it it too long even with the lower suspenion arm lowered as far as it will go. Hope the Photobucket problem gets solved in a way that is benificial to you.

Worth looking at rally design too, they do a reman M16 calliper for £50, they only list it under capri/escort but they are all the same, you can also fit the wider 2.8i capri m16 calliper and vented disc though I doubt you will really need the extra cooling on something this light.

Shame about photo bucket.
I bought my own domain name 20 years ago. In the meantime my pictures have been hosted in all sorts of different places but because the domain name is a constant the pictures I've uploaded can last forever as long as I maintain the hosting somehow.
