Grizz, if you are taking the loom from the MX5, you will likely have the sender for fuel guage next to the fuel pump. The loom to run the MX5 cluster would be worth retaining, and to be honest a lot of it is focused around the engine, so once you shave out surplus its surprisingly compact. The only other wiring that runs to the rear is for lights etc which you could ditch. The only other rear routing loom to retain is for the second exhaust 02 sensor, but that routes with the seat loom on the passenger side.
I'm knocking up a how-to on shaving the MX5 loom soon for Toolsntrack. Message me if you want a hand.

Thanks Glen, I agree, most gauges will fall away, and not be reused. I like the idea of setting it up as a “bare bones racer” with minimal functions monitored. And a new wiring loom if needed. There may be enough MX5 wiring etc there to use. You only need a speedo and tach. The less the better to be honest. I really want basic.

Fuel gauge could be helpful. Not needed if you fill regularly, which I do. Not planning to run to Scotland in it, rather 200 miles radius around here. Not to Europe though.

I haven't looked at a tachometer for years, even though every car I've driven in that time was fitted with one. Saab had the right idea with their black panel; press the button and all of the dash goes off except for the speedo.

Little bit every day Painted the outsides of the panels. Happy with the brush results. When I tack them to the frame it will be on a wet cloth to minimise heat distribution and damage. Should work. That should do. Bead roller certainly made a difference. I like that.

It's tricky to get lines that straight with a hand crank roller.

My current daily (well at the moment my wife uses it more than me), BMW 1 series, doesn't have a Temp gauge which I still find strange.

Even speedo is debatable. Tach is just for cool points.( On the angle so max revs is at 12 o'clock) For the fuel gauge, just get a dipping stick.

It's tricky to get lines that straight with a hand crank roller. Thank you mate. A bit of planning, one test run on the rusty scrap, and some luck sprinkled over the top. They are far from perfect, but planning certainly helps. Simple tricks...... 1.) Mark the tightening wheel with a Sharpie where you turn it down to, so you get the same depth on the bead die every time. 2.) Know exactly where the bead needs to end, and then tap the last 1/4 of an inch so it all looks right 3.) Do not rush, that is my biggest mistake most of the time. I think that is what helped me.

Think it would be a good move to cut the big arches off. Narrow body FTW. Did it on the Covin 911. Much easier on your shell and would solve a few issues.

I literally cut the wing off and had to make my own new, narrower wing to graft on. It looks like your arch extensions stick out from a flat panel, so slice off and make good. Your shell has nice flat sides and angles ,so much easier to repair where you cut off the unwanted bits.
