Arrived on Thursday...1969 Simca 1200s. One owner family since new. Spent the majority of its life in the sunny climate of Portugal before being sold to a collector in Holland (who it took me over a year to get him to agree to sell it to me). Never been apart or welded... Had a bit of paint, but never mind. Always wanted one since I was 11-years of age and used to look at them in the Simca dealership across the road from my Junior school. Will post more pics later

Sorry dazcapri, thanks for alerting me to this though. I meant to reply to the new owner of the 1200S, streetracer75 who I think was a guy I've been in touch with over these in the past. Here's one from a Belgian facebook group.

Hello Mick Yes it's Gary and of course we have been in touch over the last year or so. Well I finally managed to buy and get the car home. Took over a year, but all looks good. First job over the weekend was to drain the tank and clean out the fuel lines. Considering how long the car has been in storage, the fuel was surprisingly clean. Just need to refill her up again, a quick oil change and then take her for a spin.
Electronic ignition kit, upgraded coil, leads and plugs are on the to-do-list for next weekend

On both our 1200S which had been standing for many years we had fuel tank problems. Kev's would not pull fuel through with less than half of a tank full. We put that down to the pipe from the top of the tank having rusted off so planted a completely separate one into the tank.. solved.!! My tank was rusted through so fitted the tank from the 'scrapper' after cleaning it out only to find small bore outlet pipe was completely blocked.... solution was the same as on Kev's. The twin Solex carbs are notorious for flat spots, leaking fuel and generally being hard to keep in tune, to the point Kev has replaced his with a pair of 40DCOE webers. My 1000 Rallye 2 has the same 35PHH solexes and I must be lucky with them as they work well on both that and my 1200S.

Looks really good and well preserved. The chrome bumpers and around the wheelarches are a real target for rust on these. Yours looks spot on. Also ours are the rare (only six made)RH drive conversion, done badly as we've found. I wish they hadn't bothered. It's nice to see yours just as SIMCA/Bertone intended.

I cycled past this tucked in your garage a couple of days ago and nearly stopped to chat, unfortunately my daughter dragged me away but it looked absolutely gorgeous. Great purchase.

Yeah that's a good looking car you have there...and I also like a car with the engine in the back.

Going to be going through the car over the next few weeks, but from first impression s everything is complete and nothing is missing. The only thing I've come across so far is the boot lock key is missing but everything else appears to be there. The battery leads could do with replacing and when I took the battery out I also took the opportunity to remove the battery tray and give it a few coats of fresh paint

Battery tray has survived well. Was OK on mine but on the coupe we broke for spares it had rotted through completely along with part of the structure below it. Will check what I've got in rear lid locks and keys tomorrow.

Photo posted elsewhere on here. Racing in the Kampf de Zwerge/Histo 1300 cup at Dijon/prenois recently, 1200S originally built and raced by the late SIMCA Specialist Hans Exner.

Car really is exceptionally solid in the boot. The picture shows the area directly under the battery tray. The only issue I am seeing is a fair bit of over spray in the boot from where the car has been under sealed at some point in the past. It's only s thin over spray but has left an oily residue to the touch. Have managed to clean most of it off with WD40 but some of it seems like it has reacted with the WD40 and turned into a sticky adhesive type residue which is proving harder to get off. What doesn't help is the rippled factory finish they put put on the inside of the boot and engine bay at the factory! Very difficult to clean and make look nice. Going to get some Tardis and try that next weekend.

Has certainly survived well in there. The area under the radiator is a prize rust harbouring spot on these. Mine was not too bad but the 1200S Kev has now was really bad down there, so much so that I had to send photos of mine to the previous owner so the guy who had started restoring it for him had some idea what it should look like. I had the same problem with the sticky remains of the rippled coating. On mine it had either hung on but had gone really messy or the moisture had got underneath and accelerated the rusting. Still checking locks and keys, have the one off the car we scrapped somewhere but am trying to find the 'safe place' where I put it. ..!!!

Mick did you leave your floor grommet in? Mines missing and don't know if it's best to replace it or leave it out? This car was stored for 12 years so is obviously dry but once I start using it if the hood seal isnt 100% it might be better to let any water drain through rather than pool in the bottom?

Gary, I always leave the floor grommets out of my SIMCAs. They all leak despite my efforts so I find it's best to let it get out asap.
