Robert, Congratulations on finally moving into the new home of motoring madness! As for heating oil.... If you have never had it before then don't take the first quote you are given. Ring around, play one off against the other and always check on boiler juice to see what the competitive pricing is but don't buy from them. Shocking service. If you have had heating oil before then you already know this and the constant fear of running out, supply and THE EXTORTIONATE COST, will be second nature. As for the wood burner, if you don't have one then invest. Transformed our home and made it liveable, I would suggest using the luxury wood company to supply your wood in addition to the wood you can scrounge and chop. They are consistently cheaper than any of the other suppliers - despite their posh name - if you do go down this route drop me a DM as if I refer you we both get a £10 discount off you first order. Enjoy the strimming and the view. P. Thank you paul , yes i have been using heating oil since for evah , and i used to do the ring around , and the village oil group etc . luckily i do have a wood burner in the hs , just a small one in a smallish room , and it works well ,after i reinstated it . i may get another for a bigger room ,that has a v big fireplace , it would save a lot of heat dissapearing up the chimney , although i do like an open fire , may contemplate a metal hood to try to capture more heat .. Regards robert also lots of trees and wood options here

Get a boiler stove, radiators and pump, a large tank as a thermal store, as much insulation as you can squeeze in and copice an area of woodland and you'll could heat the house virtually for free.
"readers other modifications" seems to be the place for such things.

Congratulations Robert on the successful move to a beautiful place. We lived in Shrewsbury for 5 happy years, Has anyone told you about the rain? It arrives completely without warning from behind the nearest hill, getting you very wet, most days!

Sounds like here. I've been stood outside in the dry sunshine, watching the rain hammer down on the street 200 feet away, with a pool of water snaking its' way down the dry asphalt towards me from it. That's quite weird to watch. Do you windshield wipers work?

Welcome to the area Robert. I'm just south of Whitchurch so about 25 minutes north (or so) of Shrewsbury, having moved here from Surrey in September/October. Next time grizz pops over if it suits we might get together if you're well settled.

Next time grizz pops over if it suits we might get together if you're well settled. Not a million miles from me either Craig, I'm about 20 minutes from Bridgnorth. Loton Park Hill climb isn't much further on - I can do it from mine on the outskirts of Kidderminster in 45 minutes on a good day, just shy of an hour otherwise. Shelsley Walsh is 30 minutes in the opposite direction too!
