Ah, that makes sense. 👍
I think we all do things a bit ar$e backwards to outside observers sometimes, but with perfectly understandable justification when asked “why?” Certainly, the flow chart for any of my projects is a little bizarre without access to my torturous thought processes. 🤣
Carry on. 😃👍

if i can get the turbo on it it will knock off the noise a bit . I'm going to steal this line when the Mrs asks just what I think I'm doing with that turbocharger...

had a successful scavenge on monday ,i needed a screen surround bottom section , and the grill in the dash , but i could not easily take them apart , so i hoicked em right out , also got the door handle i was missing ,and a few bits of pipe i though would help with the turbo install. most excellent and acceptable .. regards robert

orl roighty ,me nugglets , Today i started in on the project makenzedownuntupenpipenzz. hacked about the pipes i got from the yard , and made a sharp u bend , and also decided on the turbo position.. you can see the vague idea here.. once i have a tacked form to work with i can create the finished sealed item . then needed more bends so snarfled this pipe of the rock god.. no idea what its off, but lots of bends there , its a mm or 2 bigger diameter , but with such a sharp bend i have made it bigger both sides, to offset the airflow drop . then , if that wasn't enough i snarfled another 205 75 16 .. so i only need one more and i have enough to go on the back ,and so have a full compliment of tyres less than 65 years old. regards robert.

please excuse me while i check my list of things not to do when welding : 1,use rusty old exhaust pipe. 2,use aluminised pipe, 3,have a mask with a dead battery that keeps blinding you. 4,be low on gas. CHECK ! today i created this alien space monster sculpture , ,and i will grind and paint it after i finish welding on the flange . it puts the turbo just where i wanted it , but the welds are not pretty .cest.la.vie. quite excited to see what this engine sounds like. regards robert

Let's think about this for a moment. You have a dinosaurous old car that hasn't run in decades. The engine has a cracked block. So you add a turbo and wind the boost up. What could possibly go wrong here?

Doesn't matter if it's pretty if it works Also, bit of black VHT paint, down the side of the engine like that... no-ones ever gonna know. Well aside from all of us merrily following this thread!

Thanks GR , a nice positive encouraging bit of input , energises me right up after a long day traipsing back and forward, dragging the welder across the gravel . Trying to make this with no distortion ,so it would still bolt up to the manifolds ,was v difficult, the side of the car is so high that i feel like i have been on herr flick's rack ,it was a battle between gravity and my leg tendons behind the knees ...luckily they did not go snap , and i did the last little bit of welding with it in the vice holding the two flanges straight.

Love the fact your conversions (that I can remember) use the original exhaust manifold and attach the turbo to that rather than make a complete log type manifold.
Have you had a play with any pinto heads for turbo LPG......

Or better still, wrap it with exhaust heat shielding. Looks tidier and hides the welds. Made the rusty old exhaust pipe on my Suzuki SV650 much more presentable.

Have you had a play with any pinto heads for turbo LPG...... thank you DR , the flow on these manifolds is really good , so wanted to keep them . re pintos , no not so far , but hey , its just another engine, they are all the same to a certain degree

Made the rusty old exhaust pipe on my Suzuki SV650 much more presentable. i did ponder that Fred , and i have some wrap , but i want it to last and i think it may get so hot wrapped that it demogrifies . i will make some ally heat shields here and there though.

WEll ,today i got out my horn of plenty , rubbed it down , sprayed it with life giving silveryness , and bolted that bad boy on... then painted the turbine of the swirly thing , and cleaned the ally side , and bolted that on too... ! i was buoyed up by this , BUOYED ! ,,so i found bit of 2.5" pipe with a silencer in it , and a 90 degree elbow , and started to create the exhaust system.. you might just see the elbow on the ground pointing up, seductively, beckoning to the s/s/ elbow what imma holdin in me and. so tomorrow i will try to find a bit of 2.5" to go between them ,then it's off down under the car to the back, popping in silencers willy, nilly , so as to create a remarkable lack of noise . regards robert

VUNDERBAR ! A productive week. the exhaust from hell is finished, bar a bit of paint .. i polished the tail pipe so it should look good peeping out just in front of the n/s rear wheel.. turbo down pipe elbow, made , with a deflector plate for the wastegate.. all in stainless.. welded in the o2 sensor boss.. Then , for a COMPLETE change of pace , i started making the number plate for the front , i got an old plate , took off the letters , sanded it, painted it ,and then mr smug went to get his letters ... oh no!! where's my bloody "D" gone !!!? i bought a K off ebay to complete the set ,and i swear there was a D in my collection ,but stuff me.. ITS GONE . pox. oh well i do have a "O" so i think with a bit of filler and paint i can make that into a D . So, next topic for this evening expose , the oil pressure gauge pipe , i finally managed to pt a new end on it ,using the hot air gun,oil and a pinch clampy thing.. this will go onto a t piece in the oil line from the block to the turbo ,i needed to make a thread in the t piece ,so i did an experimental thread in a bit of brass.. with this , which was wierd , i thought the fittings were 1/8th bspt ,but they screwed into this hole perfectly .nice. and that's my week of temptressing , hopefully on monday i will get the hole system back on the car ,and hey start to make the oil feed and drain , then it's on to the intercooler . its been a funny old week weather wise , around 4 to 6 c ,and drizzly and then not ,i wonder if next week will be better , whatever, i will persevere. regards , robert

Thank you phil and horrido , much appreciated , i was beginning to think there was no one on the forums any more ! well, in the midst of the silent tomb that is the world of forums these days , i thought i would announce to the wilderness, the puzzle is solved ! Yup. i was wandering through the multiple rooms of Robert Castle today , and i spied an old number plate , and instantly , like a american dallas flashback , i realised what had happened .during the vast will he or wont he move house saga at christmas , i had cleared the loft of stuff ,and found this plate and thought.. BRILLIANT ! hey,, there's my "D" ! so i brought it down , but NEVER TOOK THE DIGIT OFF THE PLATE ...so it was never on the mantle piece in the first place . what a noodle. it was a bit manky.. so in no time it was de plated , sanded ,and etch primered , and given a coat of honda insight mk1 silver i happened to have left over (thank you catherine) i much relieved to have found this . don't be a stranger , regards robert

Is it running yet ivanhoew? Quite intrigued as to how it will sound being an old style of engine with a new centrifugal silencer on it
