My bug has been in my possession for 28 years now. Used her to go shopping last week and she decided to drop a load of oil from the rocker cover on the drivers side. Seems the cheap no brand cork gaskets from ebay were a lot thinner than the ones i've used before. New rocker covers bought (the ones on may have been the originals and were rather pock marked with rust) and a handful of new elring gaskets.

Been using my bug as my daily for the past few days as my caravelle broke a water hose connector so I had to order a replacement. Have you ever seen those Russian videos of a cow being transported in the back of a Lada? Well thats what its like having Lucy in the beetle.

Been fun hooning around the last couple of days. Made a change rather than driving my caravelle. My dogs even started to settle down a bit once they'd got use to the noisy exhaust. Fitted new rocker covers, elring cork gaskets and bent the bales a bit to give a bit more tension on the covers but still got a leak from one corner of one cover. 🙄 Removed and resealed it 3 times and bend the bale a bit more before it stopped leaking. The other sides cover now has a slight drip of oil leaking from it. Looks like I'll have to bend the bale a bit more.

Yeah, they're still the original bales. I used aftermarket ones on my bay window years ago and the rocker covers constantly leaked. Swapped to some original bales i got secondhand and it stopped leaking.
