Managed to find a spare drivers side lock mech in my shed. Needs a clean up and a missing spring replacing but it seems to move nicely. This spring (red arrow) is the one that pushes the mechanism back when the door handle trigger is released. I wonder if the one on the lock on the car is broken.

Ashamed to say i've only driven my bug 75 miles since its MOT 10 months ago. Horn seems to be sorted and i replaced the door lock and its working fine too though. I still need to get the tracking checked (though i think its pretty close anyway) but i've just not had the inclination to get it out of the garage and take it for a run. Theres nothing to go to in it and i'm not finding it much fun just driving round on my own.
When the weather has been fine i've been working on getting my VW T3 caravelle welded up before the weather changes and working outside welding and painting is off the cards.

Just reset the front toe in. Now 4mm vs the 3.5cm (yes cm) it was before. That might cut down on the 70s cop show tyre squeal a little.

What a fine looking Bug. May I suggest a subtle change to the colour of your wheels to white to match the lower side stripes? The accessories remind me of my childhood in the early 70s and that's no bad thing! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I was trying to make them look a bit like the original split EMPI syder mags, though the colour is more blue-ish. White would go nicely. Its just poundland aerosol primer at the moment. I wanted to build it to look like something that was modified in the late 70's early 80s. I really wanted to go with huge wolfrace slotmags with flared wheel arches. I found a pair of flared rear arches but could never track down the matching fronts. Until 2 weeks after i sold the rears.

Balls. Bit of arch to tyre rubbage bubbled the paint and wore a strip off the tyres shoulder. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

Difference in shape between the genuine drivers side and the repro passengers side front arches. From measuring it seems like the wheel opening is around 15-20mm further back on the repro one so i'm on the lookout for a genuine one to replace it with. In the mean time i've rolled the lip a bit with a scaffy pole and gained a little more space and i'll try and raise the front suspension by an inch or so back to where i originally wanted it. Its now 11 weeks since its MOT and its only got a couple of miles added to the clock. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

After the little tyre to arch rubbage bubbling the paint i gave it a clean up, sanded it, filled and a few coats of paint. Match is pretty good i think. Just needs a while to let the celly fully dry and i'll colour sand it.

Dug the bug out of its winter hibination and went for a spin. Pleased that at a more sensible ride height theres now no tyre to arch contact. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/zebedee/4b2acdbd4cf5.jpg)
Received a couple of Lightfoots Garage Ltd (the original supplying dealer in Carlisle) stickers in the post today so stuck one in the back window. Kinda finishes the rear window nicely i think. ![](https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/zebedee/6a5420fd259e.jpg)

Her first trip to a car show since being put back on the road in December 2019. It was nice being able to actually go somewhere for a change.

It was nice weather on Sunday so popped down to the marina for a mini VW meeting. Bug was around 20 years older than any other vehicle.

Touched up a couple of spots on the edge of the engine lid and wing. Weather has been so warm today i had to thin the paint a lot more than usual and it dried in a few minutes.
