That would be cool but unfortunately above my bank balance!
So it was stated that it would be really loud, well....
With the 2 piece baffle in its quieter than the zoom tube, too quiet in fact, sounds standard. With the baffle totally removed at idle it sounds like the zoom tube but when driven it's LOUD. It even pops a bit which I'm enjoying at the minute. It really feels a bit nipper too. The baffle has a removable bung in it which should make it in between the two so I have the option if I want a change. But just now let me enjoy my midlife crisis.

That looks good! This does ask for an engine start, idle, trottled up movie.

Will oblige as soon as I get my work van sorted. I really hate working on modern engines, give me multiple carbs any day.

Been getting lots of use out of the Beetle recently. The new exhaust has made it feel a lot more pokey, I reached the heady heights of 75mph the other day. As its getting a bit colder and wetter now I thought I'd best get some heating sorted (for my moaning passengers, not me) I've got J tubes fitted which, for the water-cooled readers, replace the heat exchangers which are the Beetles source of cabin heating (which is pretty rubbish as standard) I went and treated myself to a Chinese Webasto style diesel heater from Ebay for less than £80 delivered, It actually came from Germany in a week which was pretty good. The plan was to mount it in the spare wheel well and pipe it into the foot well and screen vents. After raiding my scrap pile I made a bracket and mounted it in. I've made it so it's easily removable for summer etc. I put two holes in the inner wings to take the inlet and exhaust pipes. The natty little silencer is secured with a bracket and exits the PS wing The fuel line is nylon small bore which was routed with a filter to the pump on the inner wing and secured with P clips. I just need to sort a fuel tank as the heater came with a huge 10l one and het it wired in. Oh and duct the heat. More tomorrow.........

Heater is now all in and working, it really kicks out some heat. I made a bung to fit the t piece as I'm waiting on some hose to connect to the windscreen defroster vents. The wiring loom was fitted nice and neatly in some conduit I ended up making a tank out of an old Beetle washer bottle I had knocking around. Now that's all sorted my next job is to fit my new flexible filler neck and the fancy chrome petrol cap I've had for months.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about having a fire based heater system in the same location as the petrol tank.
I'm sure it's probably fine, but not sure I'd want to do it.
Although thinking about it I put a gas fired propex heater in the same wooden cupboard as the (somewhat knackered) rubber fuel filler and tank breather connections so I can't be that bothered 😂
Did you consider putting it under the rear seat and piping it into the origonal heater ducting?

I like the idea of the diesel heater - it's an upgrade I'll probably do to my wife's air-cooled T25 - and I'd have no problem with putting it under the bonnet of the Beetle, that's where VW fitted Eberspacher petrol heaters in Swedish market cars. I think I'd put it further up the other side of the fuel tank though, where the Eberspacher would go.

Vw and Porsche both fitted combustion heaters in the front of Beetles, 911s and 356s. Traditionally they're fitted above the tank in front of the glove box but I didn't want to lose the load space. Fitting it in the spare wheel well also makes ducting the exhaust and inlet easier and shorter. People have fitted them under the rear seat which I did consider but would have meant a longer fuel pipe run to the tank up front. I'm also missing alot of the hoses from the A post up to dash vents I've replaced the petrol filler neck and breathers so I'm confident it's safe. It's tried and tested technology, the unit itself stays reasonably cool and it has auto cut offs if any issue arises.

A few pages back I began working on 2 sets of bike carbs to fit. Upon further pondering and visualisation I figured there just wasn't enough space in a Bug so have squirrelled them away until I get a T25. That left me wanting in the twin carb department. Casually looking of an evening I spotted a really badly advertised set of Kadrons with manifolds on Marketplace for cheaps. A deal was done and over the last month every spare half hour has been spent getting them up to scratch. This was the only photo from the add, not the best but I could make out the manifolds and the original Kadron air filters. The carbs themselves were jetted for a 1600 and complete but seriously grimey I stripped them down and gave them a good clean with acetone and then soapy water in the kitchen sink when my wife was out. They came up great, the passages and jets were blown through with the compressor and I made new gaskets as I was not paying £40 each for a rebuild kit! I made up some bits to fit a return spring to each of them and then turned my attention to the air filters. I love this classic style on Kadrons as its the same type used on 356's. The housings got a repaint in satin silver but the elements were past saving. Replacements are £25 each so I ended up cutting out the paper filter from the cage and making my own with 15mm filter foam from Ramair. Total cost £10. The manifolds were painted in grey because I had some paint left over from my pillar drill resto then I ordered a few little bits I needed off Ebay, bolts, hose, gaskets etc. I managed to find a reasonably priced non Empi Bell crank linkage off ebay and modified it with rose joints instead of ball joints. I was gifted an hour on Saturday so whipped off the Solex and Centre mount manifold and got everything bolted up I just need to re route a few wires and tidy everything up, fit the fuel lines and linkage arms and we should be ready to fire it up

Managed to get a freezing cold half hour today to get the carbs plumbed in and the linkage arms in. I changed all the fuel hose in the engine bay and ran the new lines behind the doghouse supported on rubber lined p clips fixed to the firewall. The linkage arms needed a bit of modification to work, one was too long so was cut down and re threaded. It's all in now but with the pedal to the floor I still have about 5mm to go on the carb throttle stops so I need to adjust where the linkage starts at rest. It was starting to get dark and I couldn't feel my hands so packed up for the day and hopefully will get to revisit it on Thursday in a break from home schooling.
