Never thought I would do it but I sold the 911 ...just before the pandemic , and for good money . Many weeks of browsing and auctions have resulted in something I would have probably not looked at before , an 98 500SL Mercedes..delivered on a truck the other week. Compared to 80's 911 prices it is a relatively cheap car that I don't think is going to lose any money fast.. anyway ..its got 55k on the clock and has a panoramaic roof (which is mucho heavy) , its mostly wafty until you poke it , then it picks up its skirts and disappears into the distance..

DAB needs a special antenna as said above. Usually the need to sit on / glued to the window somewhere

Mostly house stuff done today , a new set of number plate surrounds arrived in the post though... The ones on the car were chrome metal jobbies , the rear one has been rubbing on the bodywork and has caused some minor rust damage , nothing bad though , you can see the bits in the pic.. I've moved it up a bit since the pic , looks loads better to my eye

Does the aerial need to to be different for DAB ? Sweet car . It has a DAB antenna , supposed to stick it to the top of the windscreen.. , I got nothing with it plugged in and it sitting on the windscreen. A mate of mine has one in his 911 and has the same prob , mind you the DAB in my daily is pretty poor around here

Dunno tbh , the DAB plugs into its own connector on the rear of the unit , I'm not overly fussed as I can stream 6 music etc if I want to , the unit was expensive though and should work as advertised..

So I decided to try and clean the leather seats , never done it before and I had read Dodojuice leather cleaner is good so I thought I would try some , did an online order then had some mission creep so spent a bit.. also found out they are based in the next village over from me!! Should have taken some before pics .. the amount of dirt that came out was unbeleivable.. The speaker grilles were pretty bad too , I thought I would have to replace the drivers one due to stains and scuffs , the general cleaner bought it up like new.. , well happy.. Put the wheels on today , had P Zero Rosso's fitted in 235/40 and 265/35 , might need some shimming and maybe a little lower . My daughters have been bugging me about getting a Starbucks , the local services one has reopened so we went for a treat , not had one since before lockdown..my flat white was ace.. Daisy up front seems to be channelling Marnie the rescue dog ..

Wow! Given how much of a Porsche man I thought you were, this is literally one of the last cars I expected you to buy! Very different to Porsche in many ways. I expected yourself to buy something manual 'boxed at the very least, and non-grey leathe like most Porsche drivers! However, it is a great purchase! I've been looking casually at these and almost had a chance to buy an SL320 at the start of this year. Those V8s do sound superb as well with a little work if that's your thing . Loving the project! The headunit is a lovely addition and works well. One thing I will ask is: -Dodo Juice Leather Cleaner ; Have you used Gliptone cleaner before? If so, how does it compare? -With wheel spacers that will look spot on. Paul Cowland kept quiet about the 500SL on SH CC, but that had either 12 or 15mm spacers on it when he did a "podcast" with Ian Seabrook on YouTube. Does the aerial need to to be different for DAB ? Sweet car . DAB needs a special antenna as said above. Usually the need to sit on / glued to the window somewhere Close! You need to make an alteration yes. You have two choices: -Buy a normal antenna to DAB aerial converter which is powered. These are between £30 and 50, with some working better than others. The RetroSound one is meant to be OK -Get a separate antenna. The Genuine Pioneer ones are meant to work fine, but I'd always buy a powered antenna ; They're the only ones I've made work even compared to factory DAB radios and as a bonus, they are no faff once fitted, unlike a magnetic base unit, which will make you look like a taxi driver . IME a powered DAB Antenna fitted towards the top of the windscreen works best. The downside is they are are more work to put in and you can see the aerial. I did this in my Merc with the RetroSound head unit I fitted. Dunno tbh , the DAB plugs into its own connector on the rear of the unit , I'm not overly fussed as I can stream 6 music etc if I want to , the unit was expensive though and should work as advertised.. Get a powered DAB antenna. It's a little more work to put in ; Connects 2 do them and they work well .

Cheers I had the 911 for 13 odd years and a 944S2 for a few before that. When I got the 911 it was a £14k car , the more valuable it became the less enjoyment I got out of it.. I turned it into a bit of a hotrod early on by putting it on a massive diet and giving it some extra horses , it is a great car to drive when committed , did many trackdays and Euro hoons , have made many friends and have great memories related to the car ,however family commitments and lack of use made it a rarely used expensive toy. I have always loved Mercs and enjoyed my W124 E280 / W202 C43 estate and funnily enough I really miss my W163 ML350 which as far as the internet is concerned is pretty terrible . Although I sold the 911 for mucho deniro I decided £15k was my max budget and all sorts fell into that , in the end I wanted something that would not loose any money , I could enjoy in the summer and hopefully if it isn't cancelled drive to Angouleme for the Race de Remparts in Sept with my mates , the R129 fell into that list.. The car was advertised at £14k , I got it delivered for £12500 , with 55k and a full service history. Its had a B service , new wheels/tyres/stereo etc , these have eaten into the budget but that's kind of the brief.. Its probably the cleanest unmolested used car I have ever had.., its growing on me..
