So the heater is turning into one of those jobs that I wish I had never started, everything has gone wrong and I wish I had just bought a better one and done something else but here goes.
What I should have done was chuck my rusty old heater in the bin and buy the one on e-bay for £100 but I thought I could save some money and repair the one I had.
After all the rot was cut out I started fabricating new flaps and the internal frames.

Then I flushed the heater matrix out and got all the crud out and pressure tested it which revealed a leak from one end around the header tank. I soldered this up but that then just revealed further leaks on some of the tubes, whether this was from me heating it up or it was already a weak point but didn't show up with the big leak at the end i'm not sure.
I removed the end tank and tried to solder the end of the tubes up but that ended in failure and a burnt finger :-(
To cut a long story short everytime I fixed a leak another one appeared and I was only testing it by sealing one end and blowing into a pipe connected to the other so no real pressure involved. I therefore decided to cut my loses and buy a replacement.
One thing I know from the other MK2 I have is that the heater is poor, it doesn't get that hot and the fan is pathetic and as mentioned above I was looking for a better fan to fit the casing.
I also now needed a heater matrix and the MK2 ones are quite expensive so I looked on-line at more modern alternatives of a similar size and I eventually found that a Mondeo MK3 one appears to be almost the same dimensions but a bit thinner, i've bought one on e-bay for £10 to try to see what its like.
The next thing was the fan and again I saw one on e-bay from a MK4 mondeo for £9, I couldn't find any details on the sizes on-line because of course its not normally important so I took a chance and it came the other day.
Sadly the fan was too big for the existing fan housing so I chopped that off and am starting to make a new one, if anyone is considering doing this I would make two points, 1 - don't its a pain in the , 2, if you have a MK2 with a bigger enginer or the Daimler V8 you need to check whether this would fit as it extends towards the engine.

I really wish I hadn't started this.....
