I had a similar thing with our mx5 which was driven into while parked, firstly never let them take it, chances are you'll never see it again, while you have possession of the car you have the upper hand. Although they will tell you all sorts of rubbish about having to do what they want remember you are the damaged party and they have a duty to make reasonable recompense.
I got a quote from a local garage (around £1000) and on agreement that I would accept this in full payment for repairs and no further liability they just sent me a cheque for the full amount. ours was a damaged bolt on wing so easy enough to repair (I managed to knock 95% of it out and filled the rest) being plain black it was easy enough to re paint the whole panel with a couple of pro rattle cans. total cost was around £50 plus a day or so of my time.

I think that’s what I’m hoping for in reality. Can’t imagine their approved Bodyshop being happy working with stuff I’ve supplied anyway. But if they go that way, I can get a door, get it sprayed in advance of removing and swapping over. So hopefully can sort with very little downtime. I do have a spare door, which came from the estate, but it has some rust on it.. but could maybe swap that on whilst I reskin the existing door. So I have options I’ve been in this position a few times, and as said insurance companies become more and more resistant, and the whole thing becomes more and more of a pyrrhic victory, so I’m going into this with the view that if they’ll agree to a payout, I can sort bits at leisure and fix it

I'd call that door NOS ! how bad is the frame ? Taken back to bare or even re-skinned it gets you away. Good luck with all of it, in process of fitting dashcams round here, only thing people believe now I think. James

That photo is 2 years ago, but yeah, it’s not terrible but also not as good as the one on there (dent aside) I used to have a dash cam in one of the vans, and was thinking I should probably fit one again. Just don’t really like them as it adds more clutter, I’ll carry on thinking about it for now

Thanks to gtviva I now have a door, He also sorted the part numbers for the other bits I need, and pointed out so new old stock moulding strips on eBay I found the one for the door in the UK, the blank bit that would say LS or merit that fits in the door panel came from Essen So I’ve got all the bits I need (with the exception of any broken clips when I swap stuff) Insurance engineer called and said I had 2 options, write it off or they’d offer payment in lieu of repairs. This means I can fix it, it won’t be recorded as write off or anything. He offered a bit over £1000, not sure if I’d have beeen able to argue with him, but to be honest it seemed a fair price so I accepted I’ll fit the door to the van to check it fits, then get it tidied up and painted and I can swap all the parts over myself over a weekend. Can fit the spare white door whilst I sort it so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem

Sounds like a reasonable option, you also need some money to cover the increased insurance premiums you get for being hit ! ( the irony of which isn't lost on me..) Happy you found all the bits, who will you get to paint the door ? Why would you need to fit the white door, got confused there, dented red door off - trial fit new - dented red door back on while spray new door - old dented red door replaced by nice shiny new red door ? Not sure on painting yet. Haven’t spoken to Chris for a long while, so I’ll probably just get it painted locally. I think a mate is starting up again on his own so probably ask him. Only reason for fitting white door is to keep it all secure whilst door is removed, I’ve nowhere to park van inside, so I can at least lock it up whilst messing with the red door. So I could strip and rebuild door on a bench and at leisure, and if I break clips or whatever I can sort some before fitting. And yeah, no effect on no claims, but premium will increase

Spoke to mate Frankie, he is back painting again now, so he’ll be sorting my door for me. He wanted something to confirm the colour and get it matched. Didn’t particularly want to take the filler cap off and hand it over, So I gave the spare white door a wipe over, knocked some of the bigger rust blebs off and blew it over with the Montana Black Cardinal paint I’d got for race van. It’s not a quality job, the paint can nozzle dripped and I did virtually no prep, but it’ll do for a few weeks, and confirms that’s the colour I wasn’t to paint RaceVan So removed the door, and checked the new door Then fitted my temporary door Biggest thing is the matte finish, but the colour is actually pretty close. The broken rubbing strip draws your eye away from the paint as well Then I cut a hole in dented door And took that and photo of the colour on the respray paint tin to Frankie, He’ll sort the paint out and then I’ll drop him the door round to sort and paint. Came home and stripped the door, will clean and check everything over the coming weeks ready to refit.

These things can’t be rushed Friday night I got the repainted door back It was never a high urgency job, so there wasn’t a problem. Van was still trundling round… the only problem I had was that the temporary door had an electric window, I checked but the van loom wasn’t wired for such luxuries, so no 12v feed in the loom, I could have sorted something, but it was only an issue a couple of times. Dropped over to the Paintshop the other day, it’s on the old Upper Heyford USAF base, so got a photo by one of the hangers Anyway Frankie dropped the door off for me, over the weekend I built it back up, and fitted on Sunday Colour was matched from the old door, and just the door was painted…. There may be a slight colour difference, but even looking for it I struggle. So I’m more than happy, especially since I’m starting to get some rust blebs coming through that’ll need sorting sometime, and I’ve still got 1/2 litre of paint. Having done another 10k miles, it needs a service and there’s a bit of a knock from the front, so will have a look at that hopefully on saturday. But I’ve owned it for coming up to 3 1/2 years now, and nearly done 50k miles in it now,

Not a lot been done, so not been much updating Had a knock from the front earlier in the year, so had it on the ramp and swapped top mounts, ball joints, track rod ends, discs and pads and a few other bits… Then took it to Stony Classic, where it caused a bit of an outrage for not being old enough And in the afternoon on to the RR meet up at Weedon Bec It has had another service, and got MOTed again, with no real issues, looking at getting some lanoguard and treating underneath again Not taken many photos, until today when I saw another mk3 van working Be due another engine service in a couple of thousand miles, and is currently at about 153000 miles.

Those Corsa B alloys look superb on the red van, which might be something I've said before. Still looks superb in general considering its a properly working van.
