Well with all these threads going on here I thought I may as well kick off one of my own. Knocking up a 8m x 8m barage/workshop with a section commandeered for an office also. Had the founds in for 15 years and the steel for almost as long. I procured a Scimitar SE5a last year and it need a home so decided to extract the digit and get going. Thus weekend was a case of skinmming the site, next mission is to erect the steel. Hopefully wont take me a further 15 years to do.

Ratchet straps on the final pic were there to check the full height from peak to floor, to make sure the telehandler has the reach. Looking at 6.5m, although it doesnt look it from the pics. Hard going shifting that steel about on your tod with no mechanical aids.

Had great plans of erecting the steelwork this weekend, but alas the better half thought I should speak to the kids for a bit as away on a training course all week this week. I'm away next weekend also, grr. So I cancelled the telehandler and spent a bit of QT with the littleuns. I'm thinking a week tomorrow now to get the machine in to erect it. Will take a days leave so there are no kids about to kill with falling steel or timber purlins also.

Thanks for sharing this build going to be quite a structure you putting two levels in it? What's the plans for skin etc? Fingers crossed your body doesn't snap lugging that steel around with no aids.

It was in my initial plans to have a mezzanine floor in it, but wont be a feature at first, in time i may put a small gym up there. I intend the walls to be 9" block up to eaves level and then probably wood clad up to the peak. Roof will be box section steel, then insulate internally with kingspan type sheet. Externally the Southern roof face will be clad in a 4Kw solar array.
Telehandler is booked for tomorrow so should be pretty much the end of the heavy lugging. well there still will be a little steelwork required for the roller door structure and a central column on the rear gable end but shouldnt be so bad.

Not 100% on what was the issue, must give the guy a call. As it happens it is a little breezy here today anyway.

I reckon if I need to spend 14days on the sick then if it doesnt kill me, i could get a few blocks laid in that time, therefore I would sooner get the steel up so I can crack on

Small update for you folks. So Friday last week was forecast to be a cracker, telehandler rebooked and look what was waiting for me in the morning Before starting had to muck out the wee horse and my pal came along for the ride (literaly) Anyway after all of that nonsense, things moved fairly quickly, didnt stop to take too many snaps as I wanted this done. So bay 1 in place, just balancing there and ratchet strapped back to a tractor behind the trees and off to the fence at the other side. Next shot is towards thew end of the day with two bays in place and all the bracing installed, was a bit of a mission getting all the braces in but its there. Early start next morning saw bay 3 installed, telehandler at full stretch to get it in. Strapped the unbraced rafters back to the leg and fence to prevent folding in the wind, and this is where is has been left, need to square everything off now and maybe throw on a few purlins to stiffen it all up.

Your dog's punching above his weight isn't he? He needs an old milk crate to stand on.

Thats some great work doing it all alone! Should be a wicked build so keep up the progress Looks a fab place to live with all that land around although a trip to MaccyDees probably takes you a while! Are you installing a 4 poster or similar when it's built?

I had my dad helping me erect the steel, he is a 75 year old machine Tried to keep our distance due to the virus. I don’t plan to have him over now though, it’s too risky. He still farms 20 odd cattle old school style. I had the chance of a cheap 2 poster yesterday from a mate but have nowhere to store it
