We are there (SIMCA Club UK) on stand 5-848. We plan to have a selection of the earlier models there... an Aronde, 1301, !204 Special (twin carb 1100 hatchback) and the rear engine SIMCA 1000s. Should have my ex 'Youngtimer' racer there... it will make me get it up & running again for a trackday a week earlier. Photo...our last year's effort.

It makes absolutely no sense to me why people throw money away attending this show.ok this is a big show. BUT why is it so hideously expensive When is the last time you went a premier league football match / mainstream concert / west end show or a large festival - or maybe you haven't and don't realise / understand the cost of staging events or the price of attending - for most of us our passion / hobby / pastime / interest is somewhat fed by shows of this nature - personally has someone that is involved passionately at a club level I cannot really afford to NOT attend such an event - it allows the club to demonstrate through a stand display what the club represents and how it provides for its membership - it also gives the club a creditable media platform that would be difficult to achieve elsewhere - has a owner of several classic cars - quite a few of them projects it gives me the opportunity to seek out parts / materials / tools from the trade stands whilst also talking to suppliers along with keeping a eye on what is new to the market - add to this I will be in the company of likeminded owners / club members & friends that its nice to catch up with - whilst the show might not be for you don't condemn others for attending and feeding what is their passion

My gripe with the NEC isn't the ticket price, but that you get mugged for car parking too

My gripe with the NEC isn't the ticket price, but that you get mugged for car parking too The cost of parking is slowly rearing it's head with the NEC operators / show organisers (although it's little to do with the show organisers - its the owners of the NEC whom set the car park tariffs) and they are acting upon it - firstly if you pre book your parking online it saves you £4 (£12 online vs the £16 on the day cost) secondly there was deal for this years November show that if you pre booked the airport car park it was £9 - there is a free to use transport link that takes a few mins from the airport to Birmingham International Train Station that is within the NEC complex and walking to the exhibition halls from here is simple & all under cover - over the past few weeks I have been to Newbury & Basingstoke shopping centres (not something that I frequently do - like once a year !) and by comparison the car park charges for 8+ hours are £9 + - go to Westfield Shopping in West London and you are stuffed for £9.50 on a weekend once you are parked over 2 hours - I still feel that the NEC are fleecing what is a captive audience but then again so is every other establishment on the NEC complex be it Hotels, Cafes or Car parking

I pay the parking for the convenience of being on site; having driven to Birmingham from Kent I want to drive into the car park and walk straight into/out of the dvent without any extra faffing about. I rarely go alone to this sort of event, so we usually share the various costs: I'll drive, somebody else pays for the parking, another the return fuel and dinner is on the last passenger.
And I sort-of agree with you on the price, it just seems a lot in addition to the ticket price. One year I went to the car show and the gadget show on thd same day, which made the parking seem a bit more reasonable.

The Beach Buggy crew will be there Hall 4 stand 655. A good show for exhibitors with the free passes and parking that are worth £174 per display vehicle against the cost of approx £60 for their insurance divided by the 5 cars.

I plan to go this year, never been before. I jump on a train from Euston to the NEC it costs peanuts if you book ahead, train ride home after hours on your feet is just right.

That's a good way to do it - however it becomes a slight problem if you manage to purchase a new old stock bonnet for your large saloon car whilst at the show and you need to get back home on the train and for me this is one of the great benefits of being a member of a good car club - its not the first time that several of my larger purchases have come back from the NEC shows via a fellow members mode of transport

That is the only draw back, I do have a shopping list of things to look out for, mostly tools but if there is a Rover 800 fastback non sunroof roof panel for sale I will be in trouble, think I am safe on that one though.
