It's a good show I've been the last two years on the trott BUT I will be giving it a miss this year Purely due to costs I don't do west end shows or festivals and I definitely don't do foot ball and with most car show I do in the summer costing £10 or less This show is the most expensive day out I do within the year The entrance cost for two plus fuel and parking makes for an expensive day out (not including food and drink)
I'm always on the look out for more tools and parts but I can't say it's the best place for deals either
I'm not attempting to put anyone off going as I said it is a good show but given the option I'd rather spend the money on my cars

I normally have a Jowett on the 'Barn Finds' stand - not got anything up my sleeve for this year - I'm very heavily committed to other things and cant really find the time to go and sort one - plenty of them around but it means a load of logistics for me and I already have a stand to organise & run at the show - said stand is always a fully committed effort on the show theme which will display real time hands on restoration work and not just the pretend stuff that some of the clubs play at

I went to this in its first year and found it a great inspiring show for those who work on our cars. I also found it to be a little bit of a slimmed down version of 'The Classic Car show in November, which has itself become a massive animal. If you go to the Classic Car show and struggle to get round it all due to the size and now the crowds, and are happy to sacrifice a few shiny stands for more tools, demos and doing up inspiration, then the resto show provides this. It is also a little more relaxing and good for chatting. Nothing against the show itself but I too have become somewhat peeved at the carpark rates at these types of venues in recent years. Working for a company that also displays at such events, I am well used to the costs involved in corporate events. You could argue wedding fairs and things are mainly trade to trade events (companies showing and dealing with other companies), but car shows are 90% public, so to suffer the same corporate costs on some things is a bit hard to swallow. This also becomes apparent when you can go to kit car shows and gain fabrication tips, tools and inspiration at far lower cost places such as Stoneleigh or Stafford. I just hope NEC doesn't start going the same way as Excel in London and start cancelling events due to people not wanting to afford the cost. One trick with NEC is to park further out and train it in, but like was mentioned, if you accidentally purchase something, you are going to need to get it back again

Had some good chats though and lots of inspiration and ideas. Very much looking forward to my first visit to the Restoration show.

I will be there on the MR2 drivers club stand in hall 5, planning on bringing the partially stripped project on its rolling frame. (as seen in my profile pic). For obvious reasons it will be coming on a trailer so does anyone have any suggestions or advice about leaving a trailer at the NEC. Hope to see some of you there.

There's a free trailer park. I've left mine there for a number of these shows in the past. made sure had a wheel clamp on and hitch lock. Last year followed the example of others parked near a pylon and chained & padlocked it to that too. Also, on the Sunday morning, I've found it handy to drive my towcar into the trailer park and hook it on to the trailer to save time in the chaos getting back to the halls to load up.

Thanks i will do that. Have got a big chain and padlock somewhere that should do it. I assume there is no issues leaving your car hooked up to the trailer in the trailer park for the day on sunday?

They've let me hook the tow car up to the trailer on the sunday the last few times. When I'd taken a road legal car, I just drove it from the hall and loaded up. This time I'm taking the racer so will have to drive to the hall to load up. Just make sure you have your free parking pass for the tow car when leaving the trailer park. Trailer parking is free but they may check pass/try to charge for the tow car.

Sadly but unsurprisingly given the current situation the NEC Restoration Show is postponed with the show organisers looking to stage the event later in the year

Sadly but unsurprisingly given the current situation the NEC Restoration Show is postponed with the show organisers looking to stage the event later in the year A little frustrating but also a big relief to many i would expect as I can't imagine the show being up to its usual standard if it went ahead. Will endeavour to catch up another time soon.
