Honda Civic EF Import Road Legal Race Car Build

Same as what I put on our kids CRX and that drives absolutely brilliantly.

^ Options vary with the frt knuckles.
Upper spec (usu. Vtec) cars with factory 262mm discs had knuckles which mounted calipers further out to suit the disc Ø compared to 242mm disc cars. ED/EE/EF Civic 262mm knuckles are not so common & differed from later Civic/Integra so he's staying with the smaller knuckles(?).

Rose Race Cars – Based in Cheltenham Andy Rose offers start to finish project builds and every day maintenance and upgrades on modified vehicles mainly with a track or drift focus. He will be supplying all our fuel for the 2020 season. Andy focuses on mainly Nissan turbo cars, Subaru’s and BMW’s but is more than capable of working on other machinery. If you want someone trustworthy to look after your special car he’s your man.

TerryBakerIndustries – Terry isn’t really a business or company but his knowledge and friendship has been second to none in 2019 so he deserves a shout out for his consistent hard work and the fact he will be putting the EF together over winter for us.

So since the last post Terry has done some more fettling and i had to buy an Alloy post mount for the engine mounts we bought to work properly. However the alloy mounts we think has been drilled wrong so the engine sits ate more of an angle than we would ideally want, but it will do for now.



As custom chassis mounts were made for the previous H22 engine Terry has had to fabricate new chasis mounts to look as close to OEM as possible The series i race in, the regs say you can alter engine mount position, which we havnt but save any complaints or hassle its best to make it look as stock as possible.









The next problem that has raised its ugly head is driveshaft fitment. Compared with any other civic the B series sits more to one side in the EF, also i have D series EF hubs rather than EF9 SIR hubs. I'm told 96 spec DC2 shafts do the job so ive got a pair on the way. If not i may have to buy EF9 front hubs in order to run normal b series shafts.

Just remembered Honda changed their equal length driveshaft arrangements around '92 or '93. Before that L&R had male inboard ends, afterwards the L driveshaft to the intermediate shaft was made female so L&R could not be mixed up if their lengths only varied slightly. (Auto intermediate-shafts also differed since auto outputs were further rearward of the engine.)

N.America didn't get equal length d-series apart from 1st Integra limiting their experiance, though they had age appropriate 2nd gen Integra B18a shafts available to suit the 4g Civics.

CR-X D16 DOHC & JDM Concerto D16 SOHC did get equal-length driveshafts, so thought the British built Concerto & Rover 400 would upon better spec models & might provide useful driveshafts or parts even though they adopted frt struts instead of upper wishbones.

So we managed to get one shaft to fit on the drivers side so will only need a custom job on the one side now.

Ive had some new parts arrive from RHD Performance in the from of HardRace front upper camber arms to give as much Geo adjustment as possible. And a Bosch 044 fuel pump cobined with OBP swirl pot to prevent any fuel surge. Also got a roll over valve to stop any fuel leaving the tank of the worst happens.



I also picked up a set of Team Dynamics 1.2's locally which are on eof the lightest reasonably priced wheels you can buy. They came with Michelin pilot sports which should do for wet weather use.
