It would appear I'm getting behind on the updates so this one will be quite a dump
The next piece of the cart puzzle is a bottle holder.
2x1 box and onto the bandsaw we go.
and i welded it all up
Its also going to need some loops for the tank strap to go through
the thinnest i had was 5mm so that will have to do
thats one more bit finished.
It goes here
The base is getting some ally checkerplate since i had some close to the right size.
not fastening it down yet though.
the perforated sheet however can be welded down.
Tiggy tiggy
This is where i ran into a small dilemma. what am i going to do with all the accessories?
A draw would make sense but i have just welded in perforated sheet so all the rubbish would drop into my draw or i would have to sheet underneath it and create a cr@ptrap
The alternative is a box. better make a template.
First one looks good just maybe a little big
transfered to steel just a bit smaller
Folded up and a lid made
i found a brass hinge in the scrap bin so that got riveted on.
pretty happy with that
That got welded on the side
Time for some paint me thinks.
Etch primer
I'm don't have alot of use for hammerite in a workshop but since i had a few tins it will do fine for a welding cart.
The blue is a bit to bright so mixed with a little black, thinned down and loaded into the gun
Back on the ground
the tank strap is a bit of 1" webbing i had with a clasp sewn in.
The other wheel still hadnt arrived so i played around putting the rods in the tubes, bits in the box and of course the ally sheet got riveted in.
when it finally did arrive i got it fitted and loaded it up
Came out good since it was mostly guesswork.
In between doing other bits i also got some sheeting up to cover whatever car is under the big shelf. I always worry about grinding sparks from the bench heading in that direction and damaging the glass and paint.
I also drew up some plans for the next project.
Can you see what it is yet?
The first piece is i need one piece of pipe to fit inside another.
That would normally be fine but since I'm not supposed to be leaving the house i have to make do with what we have.
I have some 42mm OD and some 40mm ID i rekon i can do something with that.
going to have to cut it and see if i can open it up a little.
note to self. cut along the original weld to save me having to grind it out later
and split
next step is hammer a chisel into the gap
after working it for a while we have 3 pieces that all fit nicely over the other pipe
i want one of the sleeves to be able to clamp down so it got a nut and bit of tube welded on
Since i am still latheless the handle will have to be done the hard way.
slot cut
and a bit of 5mm plate welded in
The handle is whats left of an old bolt
a bit of 5mm bar makes a good hinge pin.
Break out the ball pien and get piening
Some time and arm cramp later we have a cold rivet holding the handle together
You can see how that will fit over the other pipe here
If you look at the plans it clearly shows a frame.
No?
just me then?
ah well your getting the frame next anyway.
No i didnt run out of one size, the size difference was intentional
So can you see what it is yet?
no?
keep reading then
Welded the tube into one corner of the frame
This contraption whatever it may be will need to be bolted to the wall so i made some plates.
The top 2 fixings are bolts that go through the wall so i made a quick plate for the outside too
Remember the sleeves from a moment ago?
Well they get welded to the plates
Surely you can see what it is now.
Maybe if i do this
And this
Some bracing required
That should take any sag out of it
*I know it does bacause i sat on it and swang it round, no bending.
I suppose all thats left is to fill in the final piece and show you all what this was for.
Yup its a fold away pillar drill stand
The point was that the spare drill we had was 3ft deep and while it was useless in the other building burried in stuff i didnt want it taking upspace in my workshop.
So i comprimised.
I also made a shelf for the drill bits, oil and other accessories
Easily reachable from the drill
Folded in it only takes up 1ft and is still useable.
The clamp i made means its easy to lock it in place if needs be but it tends to stay wherever you leave it.
