I've fancied a Spitfire or Midget for quite some time. I like vivid colours on old cars, nothing brown or green. When this popped up I wanted it! Then it slowly got reduced to something that was affordable. So here is the new girl 1971 round wheel arch midget with a 1275 a series. It had a lot of money spent around 2009 with new front wings, full respray, full engine rebuild, about 5k worth of restoration. It's done about 10k since and the engine is still sweet as a nut, came off the road sometime in 2014 and been stored since so needs light restoration again. I need to upgrade the clutch and flywheel on the Allegro ready for some more track action next year then this can get moved into the workshop. I've already bought a set of gunmetal superlites, roll hoop and starting to look for a type 9 box and caterham bellhousing

What a cool looking Midget. I had one the same year and colour(bronze yellow)for my first car many moons ago. Square wheel arch mine was though. Will have to dig out some photos of it. Mine ended up with a Minisport 1380 in it.
Happy days. Good luck with it. Bookmarked. Cheers Col.

Welcome to the world of Spridgets. It looks to be a good buy, but with the usual odd bits of rot.... is that a hardtop with no rear screen? If you are going to swap the engine for a "K", there is a wealth of expertise in the "Midget and Sprite Club" which is well worth joining.

Cheers
It came with the black fibreglass hardtop, with back window but not fitted as the rubber was loose so it was removed to stop it flying out when on the trailer.
I do have a spare k series in the garage and I have a lead on a type 9 which I'll pickup in readyness.
I bought a roll over hoop and some dark superlites for it so far.
I think I might sell the hard top and buy a soft top, hard tops look cool but not very practical.
I did have a look at a k midget when I was at the nec the other week, front engine mount was basically just a bit of box section bolted to where the pas pump would go.

I think the rx8 box is a fair bit larger and there isnt a bell housing adapter to K series yet? I am also tempted just to go full wankle with it and buy a complete rx8 I joined the midget club at the nec the other week

Nice, is that inca yellow?
It looks paler indoors and then darker outdoors so might be a completely different colour but looks similar to my inca yellow dolomite 1500HL.
Look forward to seeing how it turns out and what you can fit in there!

I think it's inca, the v5 says Bronze / yellow. The light tube in my garage probably makes a difference and I'm not sure if the seller tweaked the colour on those photos or not.

He's done loads of different engines now so I'm betting the K has one.

Sweet, lots of fun to be had in these. I've had two, I still lament selling the last one a few years ago. They've gone out of my price range now sadly.

While not much does, this bit scares me somewhat. All repairable with excellent spares at hand, but a bit of work to sort. If you are into pictures of sprite ( bugeye in this case) carcasses being pulled back from the brink, here is a link to 500 pics that might be of interest.

I think I'm best tackling the bodywork first but if parts come up cheap I'll pick them up for my pile.
