So if you are in the process of thoroughly sending off the old tyres, surely the new wheels must be heading into the truck soon? Old tyres hardly look damaged. They were like new with pattern and writing still on treads. But cracked. New wheels soon Waiting for centre cap covers to come from Katy, Texas.

Loads of tread, they were actually brand new when fitted years ago, hardly used, but some cracking, and of course being replaced by the new wheels. You didn't do the burnout right, go back and do it again. And again. And again some more until you can see the cords. Then it's done. Haha Phil Tempted but sold to a mate and he will be running them despite cracks.

Congratulations on popping your burnout cherry. They did improve as you got more practice! Good effort. They did improve. Was waiting for something to go pop.

Few more that failed to upload. Also great progress on the wheels Met a guy on an S10 FB group who offered me wheel nut caps for postage. Almost the same for postage as the new, wrong items were on Amazon. And another beautiful cold sunset. It was even better in real life. Tomorrow we have Mercdan68 over for paint detailing and lunch. The man has a problem forum.retro-rides.org/thread/217638/valetingThankfully I will be at the receiving end of the obsession Maybe even get the windows tinted if weather permits. Oh, and its Friday.

Message from Andy in Oklahoma yesterday. Progress on the mould positive, for the trucks new name badges that he will be attempting to cast in one piece is progressing. They will be 400mm long and 40mm tall. Not sure what level of potential distortion there is on such a long, narrow and somewhat complex casting. Still, as always I look forward to his progress reports. In-between he is clearing a large riverside plot, and designing a large house for a friend. So he is quite busy too. Furthermore, Mercdan68 will be over in a couple of hours to improve the paint on the truck further. Contemplating removing the stripes as well. Less to get in the way of his clay bars and potions, plus it allows all the paint to get the same baseline treatment. And maybe if I reapply the stripes, which I have grown to like, it may be wise to go a bit darker toward the anthracite of the new wheels Baseline pic taken this morning, it will be interesting to see if there is a visual change in the refraction angles of the paint and a depth of gloss increase. Lunch will be good too.

Is tomorrow the day that your car with get it's new wheels fitted also?
As the stripes are "just" stickers I would take them off. I don't think they ad a great deal to the looks of the car. They don't take much away either tbh but I personally would take them off.
Have a great day with Dan and enjoy lunch.

I’m inclined to agree with removing the stripes. I think once the new wheels go on, it will be at odds without the ‘old school’ muscle wheels. Plus like you say, get the entire paintwork up to a great standard (and I’ve seen Mercdan68 work, a good standard it will be) as you can always put them back in your own way if you feel you miss them.

Not much to lose by taking the stripes off, if you don't like it or the paint is faded / damaged it wouldn't be difficult or cost much to replace them.

They're a common addition here, are stripes.
But, they usually go along with ”3 wolf moon" and "deformed Elvis" airbrushed murals. Usually with very deep dish wheels and stick-on wheel arches and body extensions. (Plus stick on window grilles).
So yeah, without works, however if they've been on there a while expect the paint to have faded- that color goes quite light in time (doesn't look bad doing so overall but the color change is noticeable).
I'm with kevins on this one.

Have emailed and asked him. They could be permanent. I’m inclined to agree with removing the stripes. I think once the new wheels go on, it will be at odds without the ‘old school’ muscle wheels. Which pleased me no end. Andy just needs to make it into something workable now.

So promptly at 10.30ma red van, polished to an inch of its life, stopped on my driveway. Chat, catch up, coffee, carport inspection etc, and we were off..... well, Dan was off, I just watched and kept him company. I had washed the truck, yesterday, so he lathered it, and then got going with the clay bar. Resulting in a load of grime getting removed, despite washing the car. Also decided to remove the Fleetside badges, which was a bit of a pita. And grubby as hell underneath Once washed down, the clay removed the rest of the much. Another coffee, followed by a hot water and wax shampoo wash. Then dried off completely. The next step was hand polishing the paint. Starting to look real good. And the smoothness was absolutely palpable. Dan went around the truck, panel by panel. And looking over the roof, the gleaming paintwork was obviously an improvement. In the mean time, I used some Auto Glym, Bumper and Trim gel on the rear vinyl, cover. By now, the ribs and chicken were all in the oven, with another 30 minutes to go, we went for a quick drive to Allhallows and then to Grain. Of course Dan got to drive and I got the feeling that he was actually enjoying it. It was the least I could do after he had spent three hours treating the S10 to nice shiny paint. Then, Back home and dished up meat, and thick slices of Tiger bread and butter, unless you understand it, you never will. After lunch, my mate Kevin came over to drop off something and Dan left for home as he actually does have a family as well. Is ally got in at the same time, so it was cuppa tea, chat etc. After that I took Kevin’s home to Maidstone, and then typically on the way back took a different route, that was a mistake, as the 4 way traffic light system was so slow I turned the car off altogether, three times while waiting to get to the road works. Eventually made it home. And grabbed a couple more pics nearby. Amazing that despite it being near 5.00pm and overcast, you can still see the paintwork results of Dan’s work. So I guess the question arises, as to whether I am happy or not. Absolutely happy.

That is some significant gloss.
Nice, keep that lacquer-peel at bay!

That is some significant gloss. Nice, keep that lacquer-peel at bay! Morning mate, Yes, the gloss is good, and also to add, the paint feels so different. I do not understand what you mean by lacquer peel? (I know what lacquer peel is though) Is it a given, or something that can be helped with polish, as with most maintenance preventing surprises?

RANDOM POST ALERT:
Sally is looking to replace her 2013 Corsa 1.4 petrol which she will be selling.
She ideally wants a 2/3 door, new as possible low mileage Fiesta.
As a guide, there is a red 2017 dealer one available at £5000.00 with only 9k miles.
I think she would consider Focus, Golf and Polo if it was the right car.
We are in Kent, but a road trip is always in order.
PM please or post in here.

I do not understand what you mean by lacquer peel? (I know what lacquer peel is though) Is it a given, or something that can be helped with polish, as with most maintenance preventing surprises? Most modern coatings have a degree of uv protection; the sun breaks them down instead of the paint, and also any imperfections in the top coat are filled and sealed by it preventing moisture getting down underneath and helping the paint to peel off. In short, keep it clean and waxed and the paint tends to last longer looking pretty. Don't, and you begin to invite lacquer peel. (Actually that age of clear coat doesn't tend to peel, it just goes all thin and powders off, goes through the color coat and into the primer. You'd see that straight off now because it tends to go all freckled with rust.)

And also the next big job will be figuring out draining and flushing the whole cooling system and getting the interior heating back to full functionality. Of course wheels re on standby too, soon as the caps land. Morning mate, Yes, the gloss is good, and also to add, the paint feels so different. I do not understand what you mean by lacquer peel? In the mean time..... Last night this happened. No idea how, but the brain dead lodger came home and managed to toss his electric bicycle against or on the truck bonnet. No idea how, and of course it would be my fault in his world, as I happened to own the truck. To date he has not taken responsibility for any of his screw ups. Some are not published yet. To say I was pisssed is an understatement. I just told him to get out of my face nd go to bed when he offered to paint it over for me. Seriously? Weekend over of course.
