I find myself without winter storage and the Morris takes priority.
Quite a rare model these days - sits in the crossover period where parts of the design of the upcoming 240 series influenced iterations of the 140s.
Completely solid. Previous owner mostly stored it in a garage for ten years and took it to shows. I've put it back into full service all summer.
- Very solid body, no evidence of previous repairs, underseal in great shape.
- A few small very light patches of surface rust.
- Interior great and I think entirely original. Comfy corduroy!
- Boot carpet is a bit worn, a couple of small tears in front seats. Corduroy!
- Sourced restored, original, period roof-rack made in Sweden.
- Full inspection by local classic-friendly mechanic in August.
- Bushes good all round, mostly poly.
- 4x new classic specialist tyres - Vredestein Sprint Classic 165.
- All new suspension springs (-40mm). Rides at the same height as it did on knackered standard springs.
- Front dampers replaced (standard).
- Propshaft centre bearing assembly replaced (can squeal/rattle if not serviced - annoying).
- Complete new exhaust - mildly fruity.
- Has had gearbox conversion with overdrive unit.
- Oil cooler and Kenlowe auxillary fan fit.
- New alternator conversion - original was borderline (flickering charge light).
- High spec LED headlight conversion (warm white from classiccarleds.co.uk).
- Similarly fantastic LED side and brake lights.
- New brake pads all round.
- The normal new & spare sets of plugs, leads, points, condenser, belt, etc.
- Full size spare wheel with good radial tyre.
- I've added a hidden amplifier with a bluetooth reciever and 4x period-ish speakers.
Parts with it.
- Currently has earlier alloy grille on. I also have two other types - the original black plastic and a better fitting, taller alloy grille (didn't get around to fitting that yet). Worth ~£300 alone.
- Spare carb - cleaned & vapour blasted, with rebuild kit.
- Terrifying period pop-up rear-facing seats, with seat belts, that go in the boot.
- Dog/luggage grille to block access between rear seats & boot.
- Complete spare dashboard - the older type that takes a wood veneer - I had some devious plans.
- Spare windscreen washer pump from donor.
How does it drive?
- Not particularly quickly - it's the single Stromberg 175 CD2SE version.
- Slight overdrive whine at 60mph, dissapears above 65mph.
- Synchros all behave well.
- The steering is quite a good work out - heaviest car I've driven.
- Short drivers may struggle as it's designed for vikings.
What needs doing?
- Engine mounts a little soft - new poly ones sitting on my desk - might manage this by the time it's viewed.
- Replace the boot carpet if you can be bothered.
- Fit the restored carb, but no rush.
- A little sewing on the front seats.
