1974 Alfa giulia 2.4 jtd crashed hard...

The Giulia has been my daily driver continuously for more then a year now. Did more then 35k km (22k miles)in that time.

It's now developing a strange vibration i need to look at soon. But further it performed really well. I need to restrain myself from upgrading for more power. Just drive and maintain it so i can work on my other project.

My floorpan is still a work in progress. Hope to spend some time on it again soon. Only added some strength to the inner wings last time.









This weekend i helped my mate on his VW T3 V8 conversion. They painted the enginebay bright orange which conflicts with the bright pink we used on the engine mounts and valvecovers😂. Fitted new belt, pump and sparkplugs to the engine so we can mount it next week.













And we also started fabricating a rear axle for another friend. He has an Opel Manta that's getting a Lexus v8. It needed a stronger rear axle with a longer ratio. We cut up a Volvo 740 axle and made adapters to fit the axletubes to a bmw diff. Just need to weld them up now. Drive shafts from the Volvo have a matching spline for the bmw diff.😱

Due to a vibration I decided to change the dual mass flywheel and clutch on the Giulia.

Unfortunately I found a rather large crack in the bellhousing. This gearbox had a welded bellhousing and it has cracked not at the weld but near it. Since i drive quite fast/harsh with it and also drive it with the family i need it to be safe so I decided to replace the gearbox.

That gave some more problems.. the welded gearbox was shortened by about 20mm. With a 10mm steel spacer I end up 30mm longer. So tunnel, shifter and prop needed attention.

For the clutch to work I needed to space the flywheel out by 20mm, that also required the starter to be moved back, complicating the adapter. In the end it works perfectly.

Tunnel needed no modifications, gearbox mount was modified and I moved the diff back about 20mm to be able to use the existing prop.

Unfortunately i had a little moment where i had to count to 10 before i got out of my car this week. We were in a cue for a roundabout, stop and go all the time, when some idiot drove into the rear of my car at 5mph.😡

Backpanel is all bent inwards, rear light is cracked, numberplate light is crushed and the exhaust is bent and hitting the bottom of the car now.

I managed to calm myself as not to kill the rather indifferent guy and filled in the forms with him. Tomorrow the damage will be appraised by the insurance. Curious how they're going to determine an amount for that as it's all modified/custom🤔

It is what it is. It will probably mean I'll get some euro's for the damage.

Tha car was never very straight or perfect but i didn't want this.

That sucks. Terrible service. I would suggest keeping a track of the time for dropping off, picking up etc, and when they no-doubt try and low-ball you go back with a full itemised bill for your time. I hate insurance companies, but they seem to be much better over here in NZ, maybe because insurance is not compulsory they actually have to provide a service worth paying for!

Yesterday i had a look at an Alfa 164 from a friend. Has been standing for 15 years but looks fairly good (little rust/rot).

Would make a nice project, rwd conversion and Audi v8 are hunting my mind😂

We used a bmw e39 530d turbo we had lying around. Engine is a Volvo version with a modified loom from a VW golf and a T4 ecu, some version with a N75 valve to control the vnt. Another friend modified some of the mapping on it.
