I've worked in Canada a lot over the years, and I gave up trying to appreciate poutine long ago. Canadians always say "oh you just havent had GOOD Poutine yet. Let me take you somewhere where they do the good poutine". It's never good poutine. There is no good poutine. I think it's all just a joke they play on visitors. Chips and gravy, yeah, sure. I can dig that. Cheese curds? Why? They add NOTHING to the experience. Even chip shop chips with chip shop curry sauce is a better national dish than poutine. Had some pretty awesome food here though, but not that bland cloddy pap. Funny you should say that, as someone who lives here I have long since given up trying to like poutine. More accurately, I tried it once and decided I didn't have to even try to like it.

yup , had the same sort of experience with UPS "useless parcel service " with goods from california to vancouver.that got sent to boston , then eastern north new york area ,then finally got re sent to van , and they tried to charge an extra 60 usd for "brokerage" !! they deff got a lot of rage . As someone who lives here, a few years ago I had a Sony Vaio laptop in need of repair. Sony sent their own packaging to the store - to be sent back to Sony. Four times they sent it to Ontario California.

Gets to UK and takes 3 days to do 30 miles. The vague reason, it is too heavy for the system so nobody wanted to move it!

You may have missed this line too, buried in a longer text, and I apologise profusely for it. It was not meant seriously. Canadians are very cool people, it was this particular call centre person 'helping' me who was as useful as a moose... M: WHAT? WHY? I'M IN CANADA. SAME AS YOU YOU POUTINE MUNCHING MOOSE.

And, to be absolutely clear, the comment about taking a joke is not a swipe at anyone or anything on this distinguished forum. I am constantly impressed by the overall level of civility and fun around here. (not a common trait as indicated by certain forums I no longer frequent) However, living just one and one half hours from the border of a larger neighbour to the south where civility (and humour) seem to have gone the way of the dodo, and, being in my own country in the middle of a national election - again where civility is in danger and humour is conspicuously absent, and living in a city (Toronto) where we had a crack addict as mayor (Remember Rob Ford our former mayor en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Ford) - well yeah, we elected his brother as premier of the province. and having issues in my place of employ - again around a lack of civility and humour it is important to continue to find joy and fun (and irony)! All of which is to say it's good to be here and it's fun to be here, and I still don't like poutine (or Canada Post)

Had to look this up as I thought it was a local spelling of potcheen and was rather confused as the stuff I tried could double up as 4 star if we run short of fuel.....

Did you smuggle home a Holley injection kit? No. Too much to do on the car before I start buying go-faster gadgets that it may not even need.

Nice cat ! Progress is progress. How is it underneath for all year use ? Assume it's all solid from the work it had when it came over but how is it going to be if left outside in seaside air ? Would a trip to the local rustproof emporium be worth it in the long run ? James

Would a trip to the local rustproof emporium be worth it in the long run ? James Thanks James. His name is Boyzie and he's the most pathetic cat I've ever owned. As for the car, I'll be tackling various things on it and posting once completed. I'll be using the questions section to ask for any advice or opinions I may need along the way. Hoping to keep this thread on track and to the point as a record of progress.

Boyzie looks like our Charlie cat who is a bit of a scaredy cat even though he's a big boy. You need to get Elky to paint his garage walls white

Ive only just got power in there and only have 1 token gesture light, so as you can see its not the best place to work at the moment, I did supply a battery powered LED flood light for his nibs though.

Work done derday is: Fitted new B&M adjustable vacuum modulator. Changed some small hoses that looked gadge. Changed oil filter ready for fresh oil. Put sump plug back in Fitted Lokar kickdown cable. Did a bit of investigating and some genial nipping up of things underneath. Had a first attempt at removing rear bed edge trim (partial failure, or partial success depending on your outlook). Fixed misaligned hood so that it sits nice and flush with wings both sides when shut. Discovered after a trial closing of the hood, that the mechanism that allows it to unlock via the handle next to the steering wheel had now stopped working. Hood was locked shut and was not going to release. Got under the car and started working to release it. No good at all. Mechanism was not going to release the hood. Fortunately Elky came back at that point, and he had obviously experienced this problem before and knew exactly how to resolve it. So within seconds we were back in business. Apparently, and this is news to me, but apparently you have to use the hood release lever, not the handbrake release lever. Sounds stupid, but it actually did the trick. Must remember that next time it breaks. No pictures, sorry. I forgot to put film in the camera. I have a photographic memory though, and I'm an award winning artist, so I've sketched out the most interesting moments...
