I havent been here in quiet a while. Not much been happening. Not done much to my car except drive it. I notice the last thing mentioned here was attempting to get the illumination to work inside my shifter housing. I actually went weeks without remembering to actually pay any attention to it to see if it worked. Then I went to a private event in the car and drove home in darkness and lo and behold, my shifter illuminates!
Aside from that the car started making a horrible noise which for a while I took to be a driveshaft UJ. Only it wasnt ever that at all, it was a squeaky brake.
In the process of dealing with the rear brake I also discovered my front brakes had had enough. Binding, warped rotor on one side, callipers like ancient rocks. I had a few attempts at rebuilding and refitting but it was no good. Just a lot of effort for 20 miles of peace then EECH EECH EECH EECH again. Investigated having my rotors skimmed but nobody had the balls to skim THAT much warp out.
So I'm now waiting for new brake parts and bearings and whatnot to arrive. I always planned to go for an upgrade when I did them but in these uncertain times I've opted for the more economical route of replacing like for like. For one the like-for-like GM parts are cheaper than fancy shmancies and for two, working in the kerb side with more basic tools I have a greater chance of success if what goes on exactly matches what came off.
So no fancy racing brakes for me this time around.
Solved a few other problems, some solutions still elude me but they're livable for now. About to start transforming the interior from weird beige flaky plastic to black snakeskin or alacantra depending on which swatch I prefer.
All in all it's going okay with my big yank, but I'm not getting the kind of summer I had planned in terms of going to american car meet-up, trips to Santa Pod and a local event that has been quietly happening round here for the last three years on private land. So it feels like I could easily sell it and not care.
In fact, I very nearly did, just last week!
I never take 'forum' pictures so I have nothing to show, but I know people like pictures so here are some random shots of my brakes from off my phone which I used to ID parts...
Oh and Boyzie with a jar of birds, lovin' it...
