The short battery life (and bad starting in the winter) is a well known 164 Super problem and caused by bad earth between alternator (engine) and battery in the back (it is a long distance..). Adding a thick extra earth wire between them (Just under the car from front to rear) solves often a lot of strange electrical issues...
