well..... that hasnt gone to plan
I sprayed Epoxy primer this morning and allowed to cure, and sprayed filler primer this afternoon...... and ive got a massive patch of reaction occured.
I guess despite feeling cured it wasnt!
Never mind, will just have to flat it and reprime next time.

Body has been filled again and sanded again P1060287 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060288 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060289 by jono_misfit, on Flickr not perfect, but it feels like it starting to get there. I could do with a constant surface to flat against, so time to prime. I've gone for epoxy to act as a good base. I was originally going to do it in grey, but I ran out half way through and swapped to black. came out the gun ok for a change P1060293 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060294 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060295 by jono_misfit, on Flickr a couple of little runs, but nothing too bad P1060296 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I shut the doors and baked it for 3hrs with the heater on P1060297 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060298 by jono_misfit, on Flickr A check over and everything was cured to touch and ready for wet on wet primer. I used high build so I can flat back imperfections before going to the top coat P1060299 by jono_misfit, on Flickr generally went on ok with a few runs, but no biggy as they can be flatted back P1060300 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060301 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060302 by jono_misfit, on Flickr and as i watched, this happened P1060303 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060304 by jono_misfit, on Flickr sad face. The epoxy layer must not have been as cured as I thought and the high build primer has reacted with it. Oh well. Nothing that sanding back, light filling, and repriming it cant sort i'm sure. Next time will likely be flatting back the primer, fixing the issue bits, and putting a few more coats of primer on.

I was full of cold over the weekend so didnt do much. Today was a slow day at work, so took some of this afternoon off and made a start on the postman pat van. applied stopper and sanded back the worst bits of the bodywork P1060306 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060307 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060308 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060309 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060310 by jono_misfit, on Flickr then put a few coats of primer on, waited for that to dy and did a dust of black to aid with flatting P1060311 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060312 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060313 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I'll give it the week to dry.

I've been busy building a wall storage until for MrsMisfit which has taken up most of my time recently. But today I got out the garage and spent something like 4 hrs sanding down filler. Flatted the roof and then applied stopper to a few points P1060314 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060315 by jono_misfit, on Flickr just the rest to flat.... P1060316 by jono_misfit, on Flickr starting to get there P1060317 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060318 by jono_misfit, on Flickr still more sanding to do P1060319 by jono_misfit, on Flickr more flatting and application of stopper, then a blow over with some primer where i'd broken through to the epoxy then on with the first couple of coats of colour I did a very thin tack coat, then a full coat P1060320 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060321 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060322 by jono_misfit, on Flickr And promptly ran out of paint. It turns out it ddint go as far as I thought it would so have had to order some more. Coat is pretty thin and will need a number of additional coats to get the colour depth and to give enough thickness of paint so I can polish it so its shiny. It may be a couple of weeks for an update.

well..... that didnt go to plan
After setting up for spraying, half way through second coat there is a loud electrical bang and the compressor cut out.....
I managed to finish the coat with what was left in the tank.
A few hours of gettign to the compressor and checking things out. Motor caput.
On an aside.... the tank manufacture date was 1982.
Now... to buy a new motor, starter, etc. or buy a complete new compressor with a new and tested tank.....

Depends on your budget, obviously, but it might be the gods telling you that it’s time to get a better one…

I've already come to that conclusion and purchased a new one. More powerful.
I'll take the tank endcap out and do an interior inspection of the old tank. If there's space I may contemplate using it as a second volume vessel

That’s a good idea. Even if you only connect it to the “main” compressor with a hose as and when it’s needed.
My compressor’s motor exploded its capacitor a couple of years ago. We tend to forget how long we have had some of our kit, or at least I do. It had probably done 25 years worth of amateur level work, which isn’t bad all things considered.

Events from before the compressor became an excompressor.... I did some further repairs on the paint to fix a few issues and had spot primed them. Flatted the whole van down, then raised it up on some axle stands to get it up off the floor and minimise the spary gun stiring up floor dust. It also would enable I could get the bottom edge of the panels easier. P1060323 by jono_misfit, on Flickr gave it a skirt, dusted the place down, sorted the extraction system, dusted the van again, and gave it a couple of goes over with panel wipe P1060324 by jono_misfit, on Flickr Mixed up the paint (which the new paint seemed a fair bit thinner than the other brands paint) and filled the gun. Revised Extraction system worked very well and there was very little spray hanging in the air. Coat 1 P1060325 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060326 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060328 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060329 by jono_misfit, on Flickr As per the above tales of woe I just about got through 2 of the intended 6 or so coats of paint before the compressor conked out. Coat 2 P1060331 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060332 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060333 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060334 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060336 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I've got a few runs to sort as the pressure was dropping a lot by the end of the coat, but i can do this before the next coats go on thanks to the compressor issue... P1060335 by jono_misfit, on Flickr its got an OK shine to it P1060341 by jono_misfit, on Flickr The camera has made it look quite pinky, but it is RED. More tales of woe next time i'm sure

After biting the bullet, the new compressor arrived and was fitted. I think its louder than the old one but goes from empy to full in about a third the time. I bit the bullet and blew the paint on this afternoon. P1060381 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060382 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060383 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060384 by jono_misfit, on Flickr Thats now 7 coats of paint all over. I decided thats enough. A couple of littel runs that will need flatetd out, and it needs a general flat and polish, but shoudl come out ok. I'll leaev it a bit of time to cure before flatting. I gave it a couple of hours, then unmasked it P1060385 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060386 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P1060387 by jono_misfit, on Flickr the inside is a bit dusty, but no over spray thankfully.

Shes also instructed me that she will be helping to make the doors as she is a big girl at almost 5.

This is coming out so well and I have really enjoyed seeing it all come together. Throughout, you've made a very nice job of every aspect and I particularly like the bumpers that look so good and complete the effect.

Thanks. Much appreciated.
The bumpers are an entirely functional need, as she's young. Hence the big reinforcing bar in the front one. I suspect it will be used as the main method of velocity retardation.
