Hello everyone, Decided I really need to get more involved on here. This is my 1989 Autobianchi Y10 Fire. These were sold as Lancias everywhere apart from Italy, France and Japan (!) where they were badged as Autobianchis.

Oh man that is so cool. Such neat lines and those wheels suit it perfectly. I've never seen one of these before.
Please more photos!

This car had been living in Turin, Italy, since new in 1989. My friend's parents had stopped using the car and thanks to Italian urban congestion laws it could only be used in the evenings anyway. So rather than scrap it they offered it me...for free! Flight out Turin and problem free drive back and it was ready for it's new life in soggy Britain. En route in France Waiting for the ferry Despite having traveled a very small amount in the last few years it made the trip back without a single issue.

The car was converted to LPG, this was to stop it from being scrapped due to an Italian scrappage scheme. LPG converted cars were exempt. This was after I scrubbed a lot Turin dirt and muck: So obviously the car was way too high, there is NOTHING available off the shelf apart from springs so first attempt at lowering were homemade coilovers: I bought these OZs years ago, had nothing to fit them on at the time but I knew I would at some point! Fully refurbed and coated silver with 155/65r13 Uniroyal. Slightly lower profile tyre than the Turbo Y10 ran Sitting nice but ride was terrible on the homemade coilovers, nowhere near enough travel.

My Y10 is a Series 2 so smoked rear lights and clear indicators as standard, I modded some Seicento smoked repeaters to fit. Plus some original style OZ caps from ebay.

So a 999cc 8v Fiat FIRE engine is never going to set any speed records, I managed to get hold a free 1242 8v FIRE from a mk1 Punto. Engine was free as long as I collected it. Was sat in a bush and looked a bit scabby but in surprisingly good condition inside. Decided to refresh the engine with new bearings. Over enthusiasm caused a snapped new piston ring :-( The Fire sumps love to rot so new sump off ebay for £12! Head is ported, polished on the inlet and 3 angle cut valves. I'm running the "866" cam from a Punto 75 MPI engine, it's a decent upgrade for a FIRE engine.

Before I got the car I wanted to modify it but keep the OE vibe of the car, OEM+ as the kids say. I have a 16v swapped Cinquecento that is stripped and caged so I wanted the Y10 to go a different route. I'm keeping the tiny Weber 32 on the car and the 1242 8v is basically the same engine as the 999 it will replace. Punto 60 airbox, very similar to the Y10 box but bigger Will keep the OE look The throttle body is much bigger on the Punto so chopped up a square number plate to make an adaptor to get it to fit the carb Took the moulded "fuel injection" lettering off the box, painted with bumper repair paint to keep the textured plastic look. It's a shame I'll be loosing the Lancia badge but I'll like the subtle reference to the new engine. Quite happy with the end result, looks OE enough to me.

Porting a spare carb manifold to match the head, left the inlet ports smaller than the inlet ports on the head.

Got very lucky and managed to get hold of a set of Y10 Leda coilovers. There are only 2 or 3 sets in existence so was very happy. Despite being pretty old they completely change the way the car rides, I'm running new Koni reds on the rear though with chopped Cinquecento springs After a lick of paint, versus the very old OE stuff

This is my 1989 Autobianchi Y10 Fire. These were sold as Lancias everywhere apart from Italy, France and Japan (!) where they were badged as Autobianchis. Didn´t know that. Always thought the A112 was the last Autobianchi. But then, much later Lancias were badged Chrysler in many countries. Weird italians!

I'm always browsing little 4x98 wheels on Italian eBay and a set of Atiwe 13x7 ET20 came up, had to have them! 165/55r13 Nankang, the closest I've had to stretched tyres.

didnt these all come with a matt black tailgate?? The series 1 & 2 did, the third series had coloured. Looks a lot like a Cinquecento with the coloured tailgate. Some of the posh special editions of the early models (like the super cool Fila editions) had painted tailgates. I have no idea why they were all black, my Italian friend told me that when they first came out in the early 80s he thought they had plastic tailgates! Shame they didn't as the tailgate is one of the bits that like to rust! Mine is on it's second and I'm going to replace it soon anyway.

a mate of mines wife had a fila years back, always thought the tail gate had been painted as it was the only one id ever seen with a coloured tailgate. We did a punto turbo engine swap that lasted about 3 weeks before it was upside down in a ditch.

Didn´t know that. Always thought the A112 was the last Autobianchi. But then, much later Lancias were badged Chrysler in many countries. Weird italians! Yeah, she's the last of the Autobianchi interceptors. They killed off the brand completely when the first Ypsilon that replaced it in 93 (I thibk) was only sold as a Lancia. And of course the UK got the great, great, great granddaughter of my Y10 but badged as Chryslers. Never looked like a Chrysler to me! And now Italy is the only country you can buy a Lancia and the Ypsilon is the only model but recently it's been the best selling brand out of the whole FCA group!
