a mate of mines wife had a fila years back, always thought the tail gate had been painted as it was the only one id ever seen with a coloured tailgate. We did a punto turbo engine swap that lasted about 3 weeks before it was upside down in a ditch. I really wanted a Fila interior, they did a few different versions but they're all super super rare now, even in Italy. Punto turbo swap must have been rapid, no wonder it died in a ditch!!

yes it was pretty quick, too quick for stock wheels, brakes and suspension that's for sure!

This is brilliant! Haven't seen one of these for....er, a long time.
I had an E Reg Fila back in the 80s. It was the first brand new car I had ever bought.
When I got mine, the range consisted of the basic 1 litre(?) and the turbo. As far as I can remember they both had the black tailgate. My Fila was a special edition. It was white, including the tailgate, with red 'Fila' stripes down the sides. Very 80s. Inside it had red seats and I think doorcards as well. For an 80s hatchback it was well specced with central locking and electric windows...but no radio!
Despite literally everyone telling me I was mad to buy a Lancia because they were SO unreliable, I did about 65,000 miles in four years. Never any problems with it, just had regular servicing. Handling was a bit rolly-polly but it was great fun to drive. It's small size was great for my commute across South London and in those 'pre-kids' days it happily took me and the Mrs for weekends away all over the country!
Unfortunately it died one night when a 14 year old girl nicked her parents car after a row, lost it on the corner outside my gaff, and squashed the poor little Y10 into a tree.
So it's great to see a 'white hen' surviving and being looked after!

Yeah, It's not the type of car you'd want to have crash in. Feels very fragile in modern traffic, even compared to my Cinquecento. I would have loved to have bought one new, maybe a red turbo. People either have no idea what it is or they have a story about how they, or someone they knew, had one and they loved it. Always great to hear people's stories about them, was the same with my 1991 Panda.

didnt these all come with a matt black tailgate?? No, not all. I had an '89 Fila version (1.0 Fiat FIRE engine) - white all over. I did always envy the black tailgates! I loved my Y10 - great little car. EDIT - I should have read on before replying!...

So although this has Autobianchi badges front and rear it's very definitely a Lanica, and being a Lancia I'm sure you've all been waiting to see some rust.... Well the Northern Italian climate has been very kind, the MOT tester was amazed and how tidy it is underneath. Only issue was the outer sill. This was caused by a rusty patch on the roof (someone threw a rock at it, 30 years of Turin street life haven't been kind to the bodywork!) that seems to have let water run down and get caught in the sill. In hindsight I definitely should have cut more metal out The metal at the top of the hole I'd cut was too thin, it seemed OK when I was cutting but I was very wrong. Still, it came out OK in the end Not particularly sure what I can do about the rust on the roof. The car doesn't go out in the rain and now lives in a dehumidified garage so hopefully it won't get worse any time soon. EDIT: Not sure why that pic is upside down. The car was definitely the right way up when I took it.

Back in '89 the original owner ticked the box for a Blaupunkt head unit and upgraded speakers. When the car was sold in the early 90s to the family that gave it to me the original owner kept the Blaupunkt unit as it was quite expensive. Since then there's been no head unit and the speakers have been silent ever since. 30 years and they'd had enough! New old stock Technics, always wanted one these since I first saw them online:

The car as it is now: You can see the damage to the rear quarter here, a lorry hit it back in '94 I think.

New engine and new homemade exhaust will be going in after Auto Italia at Stanford hall in September. Will need to jet the spare carb to cope with the 1242, I assume I could probably run with the carb as it is but it won't be great.

This looks absolutely brilliant. The only other modified one I've see is the race/track car in Practical Performance car with 15s, but this looks so much more useable. LHD import as well. I hope your dash is better than mine! There are a few people on the Lancia Motor Club scene who run these, so if you are in need of parts then that's a good place to look. Hopefully we can park up next to each other at some of this summers RR meets.

Thank you, the bodywork is pretty 'characterful' but I'm slowly collecting new panels for a full restoration one day. It's usable as long as you don't go anywhere too bumpy! There's a gentleman in Bedfordshire somewhere that runs a red one, I was meant to visit him for some parts but never really got round to it.
I shall post some updates on the car, the warmed up 1242 8v is now in and the car is much faster. Only SORN'd cos covid pushed my MOT back to January and I didn't want a winter MOT every year.
