I’ve owned 70-odd cars over the years but there are three that I wish I hadn’t sold - the Plymouth, my ‘70 LeMans, and a really nice Mk1 Cavalier coupe. Plymouths have gone mental price wise...if a V8 coupe’s costing you any less than 25k it’s probably knackered. Mine cost £2850 shipped from California in 1998! At least I’ve got another LeMans now, my old one’s in the middle of being back halfed. And the Cav - £800 in 2002. Could I bring myself to pay £6k+ for a similar car now? Probably not 😁 Arrrr.......1998......I remember it well. I was buying Mk1 and 2 Escort for £200 - £400. If you paid anymore than £450......then you paid too much! Like yourself, I've owned near on 80 cars since 1994. The one I regret selling was a Mk3 Cortina 1300 base model 2Dr. I paid £250 for it in 1999 from a local car dealer that had it in part exchange. It also happened to be the very same Mk3 Cortina that I use to walk past every day on my way to school.....so I had to buy it. It was totally rust free.....it was also the car that, when I look back, holds the most memories. BUT.......I parted with it for £200 and a PS2! A year later, it was on the local banger racing circuit being murdered! I remember being sick as dog about it at the time.......it makes me angry to think about it now. But hay-hoo.....that's the way it goes. Really liking the LeMans by the way.......one day, I will eventually own some American Muscle 😁

Do it man...you won’t regret it! Spent very little time on the car (or painting) as new job and holidays have kept me busy. Have had a couple of visits recently though, just to tinker. Car finally has a front plate after I knocked a couple of brackets up: And the steering column is bolted back in: That was a bit of a chew as I had to remove the shifter rod from underneath the car, knock the broken pin out and drill the hole out to take a split pin: Keeping to the ‘titivate a couple of bits after I’ve done some proper work’ principle, stripped and painted the rusty pillar trims when I got home: Lastly, in other news (literally) I got nearly a full page in Friday’s Northern Echo, with a Me and My Motor feature: Sunday saw a visit from my mate Alan, who looked at the underhood wiring and said ‘DO NOT try to start that until it’s rewired.” Confirmed my suspicions, there’s a very probably a new loom in its future. Did remove the redundant air con gubbins and dodgy stereo wiring though.

So…have I missed much? 😁
Been a while since I updated this, and there’s been a shedload of work done.
Went to Hot Rods and Hills last summer and basically decided (after several beers) to sell pretty much everything I owned to get the car properly sorted. This has so far amounted to:
Front disc conversion with drilled and slotted rotors, new stock back brakes New front and rear springs/shocks/bushes Reconditioned rad Removal of the non-functioning air con setup New wiring Electronic ignition Recon Holley 650 vacuum secondary carb New mini starter New alternator New auxiliary gauges Clean out and paint petrol tank
Plus various other bits and bobs.
We finally managed to get the car started after over a year of inactivity a couple of weeks ago, which was great. Hoping to have it ready for Hot Rods and Hills in 3 months’ time, fingers crossed!

Well, that was a busy month! Last Friday, after nearly three years of ownership, I finally drove the car. Still needs a few bits and bobs sorting but it’s basically done. Bringing it home next weekend to get it sorted for a run over to Pooley Bridge for Hot Rods and Hills - should be an adventure!
