Hey Retro Rides.
I have just seen one of these for sale and am seriously tempted to get rid of my Chevrolet S-10 in order to buy it. Can anyone tell me about these cars? The one I have seen is a 1979 2.5. Are they the same car as the Australian ones or do they just share a name? Most of all am I being daft?

I believe these were sold in the UK as a Vauxhall Viceroy which was the upgunned version of the series one Carlton but the model below the Opel/Vauxhall Senator. I seem to remember a guy on here somewhere who owns/had a Viceroy?
Personally not seen one in the UK for yonks and I can’t imagine they would be megabucks if one came up for sale as most people wouldn’t even know what it was now.
Not sure about the Australian or South African versions but they must have had some variant.
Hope this helps.

Yeah gave that a read after starting this thread. Just wondered if anyone on here could give a bit of knowledge/tell me that it is the most normal thing ever to want such a car!

The straight 6 is a great engine but the carbs let them down, they rust and normally if you can see the rust on the outside it will be lots worse underneath, check around the strut tops, front footwells, rear chassis around the suspension mounting areas, arches etc, usual stuff really for a 35year old car!

The one I have seen is a carb engine. What is it about the carbs that let them down? I am strictly a one car guy so would be using it as a daily.

Pretty sure its a 35/40 INAT Zenith, used on a few other makes of the period but I believe some of the carb parts are getting hard to find, auto chokes suffer and years of being fiddled with by hands that no nothing don't help
If you get it I do have the Opel parts microfiche if you ever need to identify part numbers

The Holden Commodore is/was very populair here in Australia. A good one will cost you a nice bit of money. The V8 is in my books the one to get.

Look at this.... Peter Brock’s HDT VH Commodore, which won back-to-back Bathurst 1000 races in 1982 and 1983, smashed auction records last weekend when it sold for $2.1 million, $500,000 above estimates. The total cost, including a 7.5% buyer’s premium, is $2,257,500. The buyer remains anonymous.

Love the vinyl roof and the red on red interior, very late ‘70s GM. Reminds me of the old Chevette colour combos.

Red velour came in several 80s cars, too, like Benzes or Volkswagens. Some call this a "Kinderschänder-Ausstattung" (= child abuser interior).

The red Commodore is a cool looking machine but needs work on the struts and the 2.5 carb sort of puts me off for a daily. Thanks to this thread I also searched for Opel Rekords and found that they have the bombproof 2.0 8v in them. I have found one in a fetching shade of gold and if all goes well may go and check it out at the weekend!

If fuel consumption is not too much of a problem how about a Senator A or Monza 3.0 with the fuel injection? The Omega A is very underated, comes with a good choice of engines and a very nice dailey drive if you can find a good one, they are also 30 plus years old now so nice an retro
