Hello, everyone! Having issues with attaching photos to this post so they are here for now: mega.nz/#F!4t8mQQTK!pl5dsdh-0RO9HTIzPPGDFg I recently purchased this from my neighbour across the street. Being a Sceptre model, it has PAS, central locking and of course the funky vacuum sunroof. The bodywork is very dirty and scratched but quite straight apart from the boot lid which was dented when somebody gave the rear end a slight bump in traffic a couple of years ago. The rear tyres are quite badly dry rotted but they are holding air for now. The boot lock is also now back in the car! I haven't managed to start it yet due to the keys having been lost. Was running and driving until a few weeks ago when the previous owner parked it up in the street while he was away in India. Overall I think it's a decent example apart from one major problem... The gearbox is toast. At the moment I seem to have 1, 1+1/2, 3 and 5. 4th just isn't there and reverse might not be there either. From the noise the gearbox is making, I don't think there is any gear oil in there. There is a slight leak at the bottom of the gearbox but I have no idea how long it's been leaking. Mileage is around 120k. There's also a fair bit of oil running down the front of the block but my other 205 also leaked in the same way (at the rocker cover gasket) so I'm not too bothered about that at this point. Oil is still near max on the dipstick so maybe I can fix that later. The main priority at the moment is to get it through the test so I can enjoy it this summer. There isn't any rust on the body underneath and I can't immediately see anything that would cause it to fail apart from the perished rear tyres and maybe the broken indicator at the front (...and the gearbox of course, it's awful). First port of call today is to grab some cheap gearbox oil from Halfords to fill the gearbox back up. Then I'll try to move her off the road, after a jump start of course. Do any of you guys know where I can find the gearbox serial number? It seems like it might be tricky to find a replacement from having a quick look around online. A friend reckons that some gearboxes from a 306 might fit but my frantic googling has given me inconclusive results. I would like to keep it running in it's original form if possible but if I can't get hold of a gearbox then I am open to swapping something else into it. PSA group engine and gearbox of some kind but I'll cross that one when I come to it. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it. Cheers!!

Just a small update. Chucked 5 litres of fuel in and picked up some Halfords finest car shampoo and spray wax. I obviously wasn't going for a showroom finish as the car will still be parked up for several weeks while I find a gearbox and wait for my mate to clear a space in his workshop.. Photographic proof: Shiny-ish! At least I've now evicted the outside spiders and gotten rid of most of the moss!

hi there there's a 205 1.4 gearbox on ebay £132 delivered cheers - mike Thanks for the heads up, Mike. I have seen that one already. I don't think it's the right one. I believe they changed to the "MA" gearboxes in 1990. Currently asking about on some 205 related Facebook groups to see if anything is available. If not, it'll be a trip down to a few local breaker's yards. Cheers, Lou.

I'd been putting this off for a while because of the potential to find something that I wouldn't like. Here was the state of the boot carpet after removing the water-trapping plastic liner. Yes, that is some brown sludge on the left. To be honest I've never smelled anything like it.. I was hoping it might come out in one piece but soon found that that wasn't going to happen. It was just falling apart so I decided to grab some gloves and throw the whole lot in the bin. After a bit of anti-bacterial baby wipe action it didn't come up too badly. The list of jobs is steadily growing. I'll keep updating this thread for anyone who's interested. Hopefully she'll be back on the road by the end of June. Touch wood.. If you made it this far, thanks for reading!

Managed to pick up a good cheap clutch from good old Eurocarparts. I was waiting for a break in the stormy weather to do the sunroof washers. Bit of a struggle but managed to get it done. Really needed doing as you can see in the photo. Once I figure out where this leak in the boot is coming from then the car will be 100% water tight. The actual vacuum sealing handle is also broken but I've got a replacement here so I'm going to fit that when I have an hour spare.

Thanks for the comment - mine is very tidy and low mileage. I'm lucky that I don't use mine as a daily, so I can try to keep in that way. Look forward to more info on yours as you progress.

This looks like fun, should be lovely with the 1.4 too. Picking up a 92 1.1 5dr Zest in the next week or so myself. I've had a 1.0 3dr before. Ace cars, can't wait to be back in one.

aaaaahhh....minging wet peugeot underlay...remember it well. when i picked up my 106 the carpet was floating , it was that wet underneath. fortunately the floor pans were still mint but the underlay was like something out of a sci-fi movie...all slime and dead "things". i replaced it with foam underlay that's used for laminate flooring.

Went out to the car today to swap the sunroof handle. Turned out to be an easy-ish job that was completed with minimal swearing. First removed the reading light to bring this main panel down Here is how everything looks once it's unscrewed from the body of the car. At this point it started to rain so I stopped taking photos for a while... I had to remove the vacuum lines and the small box that they ran into from the sunroof handle and disconnect the cable (which was the hardest bit). Then just put everything back together in reverse. Here's the new handle fitted. During fitting I noticed that this one has some stress cracks in certain places so it will eventually break like the previous one. Although it does work fine and will do for now. Here's the final picture with all the vacuum lines re-attached. Next thing on the list is to get hold of an offside front indicator and an offside rear light unit. Still waiting for my friend to clear space in the lockup!

Getting hold of a gearbox is proving a lot trickier than I though. I've called every scrapyard within 20 miles and no ones seems to have anything even remotely similar. I'm going to have a look about on the classified forums on here. Can any of you guys help? The engine is a TU3 (I think) and gearbox number is 20CB95. I believe there's also a speedo drive on the gearbox if that helps. Location is BS21 if that helps. Cheers!
