I had a couple of these 2.0 and 2.2 loved them. That looks to be unusually solid as well. 5 pot engine is very under-stressed 2.0 is only 115bhp so lazy torque and that lovely 5 pot sound especially with a Jetex exhaust. Mechanically they are mostly an Audi 80 of the same period so most service parts available, trim is in the unicorn parts brochure for these. This engine was fitted to these, Audi 100 C3 and Passat GL/GX5 of the period.

Little by little all of the gremlins are being worked out. Since we got the car the blower motor has been a bit noisy. A touch of grease on the end of it did sort it for a while but that has since dried out and we were back at square one. Because the blower motor sits directly in the cowl people on the path could hear the noise too, especially if you wanted anything other than the lowest setting, cue an order from AUTODOC before Christmas and we are all sorted, no more mice Here’s a little before soundbite If you look closely you’ll see the stereo has disappeared. Yeah that was becoming a pita chewing up the last of our tapes and barely working. We don’t drive it very far to need the radio really. Once the mechanicals are more upto scratch we’ll get round to that. Next... brakes all round. We’ve got goodridge making us some braided lines, sourced another proportion valve if the one on the car doesn’t want to play ball, new drums and all the accessories, just in the midst of identifying the model of front calipers we have before getting them on their way to us, if needs be I’ll make new hardlines too. The passenger footwell has been getting a little damp recently, a closer look reveals a 1p sized scab has opened up within the door shut above the top door hinge. Chloe’s finding a professional to sort that, whilst I do have the gear I am absolutely not good enough yet. Considering this was supposed to be a stop gap car I think it has more than earned it’s place to stay. There are a few more things we’ve bought for it but those will come in future updates I hasten to add, chloe changed the blower motor herself

Good to see you're still using / loving the Coupe. I have such fond memories of the tornado red ones I owned as a 20 something. They sounded so good and were just a lot of fun to drive. Admittedly there was a lot of body roll but nowadays I guess that's easily sorted? Back then I couldn't even find lowering springs.

I think if you look hard enough parts are out there they're just not as advertised as they used to be (jetex don't list B2 anymore for example), I'm not sure what we'll do with regards to lowering it, Chloe likes it in standard form too much so it's more about fixing it where it needs fixing, I would love to do the exhaust/wheels etc, the limiting factor is, it's mostly her money that gets spent on it. This ones ok to drive, very smooth and floaty at low speeds, its more of an old rolls minus the wood and champaign than the sports coupe the turbo versions were supposed to be, I'm a tall but thin fella and find the drivers seat doesn't go back far enough for me to be properly comfy, my knees are close to the wheel the pedals are also offset but not enough to feel weird. One thing I had never really considered is just how raked the windscreen is, its so led down that I can have my hand around the wheel at 2 oclock, point my index finger and touch the windscreen. Above 40 though and the gearbox is the biggest drawback, no overtaking power, no downshifts on steep hills, just the lifters get clackier (is that a term?), rpm and noise as a result on the motorway can be testing, I can't imagine it does much better than 25mpg. What really surprises me that it's a 3 speed auto and not 4 especially being Audi over VW, the two mk2 golfs I had that were autos and similar age to this car (type 19 and an E reg) were both 4E boxes, better on long trips as a result and overall seemingly more comfy inside for a taller person probably as a result of trans tunnel being smaller and engine being the other way around. If it were my car or I didn't have my own projects to look after I'd definitely be sourcing a 5 speed setup for it, before I bought the Skoda I did ask to buy it from her though she loves this more than her Gen 1 civic which is almost a bizarre thing to say, they've very different vehicles though.

Great to hear it’s still being enjoyed, I appreciate what your saying about the auto/manual gearbox, a manual coupe is a whole different car, keep up the updates , nice to see ;-) Cheers

Yes the 1994cc JS version is a brilliant 5 Cyl engine and very underrated & as you say very torquey and economical at the same time.

Results of that chrome pen from a while back Is this the pen being put on and faded over 12 months, or the before being black and the chrome still holding up? Love the car, that colour really suits it!

Still holding up, though I caveat that with, we haven’t really driven the car anywhere so haven’t had a need to wash the car heavily, next time round I think we’d try chrome vinyl. More fiddly but probably way longer lasting

Well, I said it was the year of brakes, here's the proof All hardlines replaced bar the one on the driver's front as getting to it would mean pretty much engine out. The job was big enough already. The only part we couldn't source new was the load bias thing (the name has just been lost in my mind) Calipers split down cleaned and resealed with new pistons, new drums, cylinders and all the gear you get the idea. Whilst down there I nudged one of the fuel lines and it immediately started leaking, we knew we were going to replace it all at some stage just hadn't planned to do it all right there and then. The fuel lines that came off were r6 stamped and 2018 dated but were well cracked. Took the opportunity to replace the fuel pump as it was noisy along with the filter down there, wasn't a bad brand one, new one is much quieter though. don't worry about the overspray on the disks, that came off on the first test drive down the lane. Still LOADS more to do in terms of stopping the car sweating. Gearbox is due a closer look now as it's been leaving spots ever since we got it. I think an update would have been sooner if we hadn't had quite a large mouse issue (so far caught a dozen of them in the garage three of which had made a nest in my civics blower so time has been spent cleaning out the nest/poo/bodies from that car rather than moving forward.

Is a fruity preface lift (but facelifted) B5 S4 Avant in nogaro blue with blue nogaro sport interior retro yet? Probably not, more piston heads fair I'm sure. I have been battling mice in the garage. Turns out when the pitched roof was built, they never installed a lower face into the eaves above the shedded side. There isn't enough space on the outer side to be putting one in without disassembling the roof of the shed so lots of mesh bending later and we're proof .. for now

Nice to see an update on your Audi 👍 Both of them are of interest to me (just got a B5 S4 Avant in blue myself this Christmas - albeit a Hot Wheels version which is all I can afford!).

I was gifted a nogaro blue rs2 hot wheels for Christmas too, it's sitting proudly on the centre console, plenty needs to be done on the s4 but also, plenty needs to be done on all the cars really. Though housework and garage work took precedence, we're quite fortunately moving into the house the garage is at within the next month so I'll no longer have my tools split between two locations though it does mean I need to cut the fleet back. The house has been empty for a few years so the garage wasn't the only place with mice :/ getting there though and I might finally be able to do some upgrades in the workspace

I have this habit of not being able to leave anything alone. The S4 has been a fantastic work horse despite the 15-18mpg (this because it has near 500bhp not the 200-something from factory), we used to live on a road with maaany speed bumps, 16 in and the same out daily. The B5 would scrape on all of them no matter which way you took them. It would also drag drivers rear in the arch on larger undulations in the road with no load in the boot. I thought the car too low to use without worry and a quest began to find some newer suspension to replace the old stuff on the car, it was riding on the original S4 dampers paired to some lowering springs that were probably 60-70mm down. I snagged a lightly used bilstein b12 pro kit online and the swap over began. Now, I should mention here that given the amount of modifications the car has to the power and brakes I had assumed that the top mounts would be fine, they looked fine on quick inspection though Facebook b5 group have plenty of warnings on there as do the forums that you should double check and check again. Consider the can of worms officially opened. Yeaaaaah, dodged a bullet there, you can only see all this once it has been removed as from the visible side in the arch it looked fine. I didn't initially purchase replacements, I was praying to the car god's these would be fine. Another browse of that there internet found a full set of suspension in Newport, Wales for a bargain, these top mounts are ridiculously priced new (£300+ per side). A bit far but I already have the car in parts and the day off, luckily for me the fella was in, so I took a car that hasn't yet been mentioned on here to go get them. rooooadtrip. Just like that, I'm back and the new stuff all fitted together. Still low, just not as low and way more useable and slightly comfier too, I'd consider the ride on the bilsteins similar in quality to most modern cars now, firm but forgiving on harsh roads and not floppy in the bends. Well worth the money I paid anyway.

Yessir, a colour storm in imola yellow, it will be replacing the coupe GT ultimately. We have at present 8 cars, that's 4 too many. My Skoda rapid, my civic EJ, my accord and her coupe will go. Some small jobs to come on the coupe soon to get it through its next MOT in March, then it should be on the market.

I am not an Audi guy by any stretch, but you've chosen the absolute coolest models to add to your stable. The only way I could be more jealous is if you had a D2 S8 and/or a C4 S6 Avant. Your taste is great and your work does these awesome beasts justice.

we had a 2.3 3 speed avant at work in the 90s. It would kick down into 2nd at high ish speeds if you floored it. But If I still had one I'd be looking at the newer 01E or similar manual boxes as a replacement. Something that old will not have ECU related issues with a conversion
