Well this definitely fits into the 'looks like it should but can't bracket' ... My Dutton Sierra is effectively one wheel drive having no LSD or driven front axle, all mk2 escort with a 1993cc pinto and 5 speed box. It does have ground clearance and a sump guard but thats all folks...
But it's still fun in the snow. It does do soft road very well, grass car parks and stuff can be attacked with gusto but it's only 1000kg so can get a bit animated ...

Well this definitely fits into the 'looks like it should but can't bracket' ... My Dutton Sierra is effectively one wheel drive having no LSD or driven front axle ground clearance and decent tyres is 75% of it ! with two driven axles one just has further chance to get into irrecoverable situation

owned 2014-2015. vauxhall frontera series B, 2.2 16v petrol. i can already hear the groans, but all i would say is drive one! ignoring the vauxhall vectra engines and interiors this is actually a very well specced/equipped body on frame badge engineered isuzu, a competant rival for hilux/L200 based vehicles of that era.

I've got to say that I quite enjoyed my Frontera too, I thought it was a very good little 4x4.

The Isuzu 2.8 diesel engine was the one to have, although the V6's weren't bad either.

My first Land Rover. Bought it when I was 15, I was the first civvy owner. Used it for RTV trials and a few years later had it on the road. I painted it, changed the roof, put all the curse word on it a young lad wants including the triple wipers just coz. I was given a 2.5 Turbo D engine from a 110 that got a 200, so put that in here. But before that, I would spend ages going around quarries in my Jeep. Father would be off setting out a trial for the next day, I would be on a little adventure in this. The woodwork was built by my granddad, and the metalwork was done by my Dad. I also eventually had a large flat trailer built for this to tow, that I could carry my motorised digger on. Me when I was around 7. I would also be lap driving a V8 series 1 around the sections to try them before the trial around this time. By the time I was 9 I started trialing motorbikes, and at 13 got into pre 65 trials with a BSA Bantam. I had a couple of 109 Station wagons when I was 16-17, cant find any photos though. Then I got this canvas top 109, 2.25D on a military chassis. I was not much into taking photos, no camera phone and no sense of nostalgia at that age so unfortunately, no photos of some of them. But few more soon.

I abused the old Landies, never had many problems but occasionally broke a diff or halfshaft until I learned how to be smooth off road. Anyway, I was talked into buying one of those modern reliable J 4x4's You have probably all heard the Nissan horror stories of these carp engines and boxes. I cant remember when I got this, or in what order, but picked up this 90 300tdi CSW when it was about 9 years old. That was one hell of a great vehicle, did a Sahara trip, a couple of 12 car road rallies, RTV trials and everything in-between

Is there much room in the back, looks like a reasonable sized estate? Do these ever come up for sale? I'm in the planning stages of what I'm going to get next and would consider one of these.

Sadly these are now a target for escort restorers and breakers as they do use a lot of mk1 and mk2 running gear. They do come up occasionally on ebay but are normally sniped for the parts. They used escort estate seats etc including the fold down in the back, not enough room to lay down though even with the back seat removed. Most never bothered with back seats as there are no belt anchorages.

I love a bit of dirt, but because I'm awkward I use 2wds. Unfortunately I killed my FWD Vauxhall Astra, but now I've got a RWD Bedford Midi. I need to sort photos out to show here, but they can be found on this page: www.facebook.com/2wdOffRoader
