Time to start a thread on this one.
Considering I bought this car over the phone unseen, I have been quite pleasantly surprised by it.
The gearbox is noisy, but I have hopefully found one that will do the job. I'm going to pick it up on Sunday, its from a Proton Wira and everything looks about right, just the Proton has a hydraulic clutch and the Lancer has a cable. So the next job is to either fit the new box, or if the cable clutch gear has no provision on the new casing, it will have to be swapped over to use the original.
Most of my projects take a long time as spare time is in short supply. This time there is a deadline though! I need to get it ready for the Mitsubishi 100 Anniversary event on the 30th of this month!!!!
It needs a proper clean and detail and a few bits fettling but its a pretty good base to make a nice usable car.

Found some time over the weekend and got some cleaning done. Interior nearly finished, just need to polish the boot floor, clean the spare wheel and tool kit and all done inside. Had a few hours cleaning the engine bay too, about half way but its looking ok ish...

Well after lots of time and effort, the bodywork has a shine. I think the previous owner washed it fairly often but I don't think its seen any polish for a couple of decades. Interior didnt need any real attention, couple of hours squaring things up, sorting a couple loose threads on the drivers seat and polishing places people will never see. You may notice the front grill is broken. They are on back order from Mitsubishi and i have a feeling they will go NLA. I have a good used one on its way via a friends house in Poland, will fit as and when I can. Also managed to buy a Proton gearbox from a 2001 Wira, need to decide if I do a straight swap or use it to rebuild my original box. but I'm just not going to have time for that for a few weeks. Finished the engine bay... Clayed, cut, polished and waxed the body...

Nice find - I worked at a Mitsubishi dealer when these first came out in 1988 - Liked the Gti version as you would but were rare then.|Vastly underarted cars were Mitsubishi back then. I have an earlier 1986 Lancer (the model before this)

Would be good to see some photos of it either way.

You and me both - I have an L300 van as well that I turned into a camper (That was recorded on RR a few years back but photobucket messed the pics up) I only have one picture of the Lancer taken from the ebay ad in 2010 when I bought it Mitsubishi Lancer GLX by Anglia305e, on Flickr It's off the road at the moment while I finish my Subaru pick up then I plan to tidy it up again.

I have some old Astralight alloys to go on at some point, so will be restoring the wheels once they come off. the orig centre caps are still nice.
