When you have done that add a shelf all around the garage in line with the top of the doors. Make the shelf deep enough to take Really Useful Boxes. The volume of treasure you can store up there without taking up any wall or floor space is astonishing. Add a continuous ring of modern LED tubular fittings under the edge and it's pure luxury for my aging eyes.
That about the shelve is a good advise. I made a kind of cabinet above both my garage doors and both are more then 1m deep and the amount of space is really very nice. I made a steel frame and filled it with wood so its rather strong. I even have a spare gearbox lying up there. On the picture i had stored all my 4 painted Rover doors stored to avoid damaging these Your garage looks very nice Mark. Peter

All good points, thanks everyone. Good day today, had to go shopping for cables and some timber and a few other bits and also prune all of the roses in the garden. So progress was limited to a full afternoon in the garage. I started by removing the door sealing battens from the door frame of the big double doors and planing the door frames flat. I then refitted the battens so they are nice and tight to the doors so eliminating draughts. Then plod, plod, plod carrying on with electrics. I've got power all the way round to the stereo now, so no more extension lead around the garage for that Some of the old shelving has also got put up, it was varnished wood and has followed me in my garages for over 30 years! I originally made it for video tapes - anyone remember them?? Now got a first coat of primer on it. Plugs now all wired in on this side, and the first toolboard gets put up - hurray! Second shelf now notched out and fitted, just the top one to do now. Then move on to the next set of shelves.
Only got 5 more evenings to get stuff done before the car will need to come back in for work on it for the Practical Classics & Restoration show at the NEC.

You will regret that second lower shelf. Unless you are 4' tall you will at some point bang your head on it!
Keep all shelves above your head height!

Yay, shelves are up! Need to notch the second set & buy a proper top shelf (ran out of wood) as the one that on it is just a peice of warped shuttering ply.

I'd like to Robert, yes. Unfortunately it needs surface grinding first, then screeding. A job for a bit later in the year. Good thing is I can make as much mess on it now and it does not matter. Need to fix central heating tonight and hands are shot from all the work (split skin everywhere ) so progress may be limited. I did get some mahooooosive gate bolts to replace the spindly ones fitted by builder, and some other ironmongery is also on its way.

Cue australian accent........."that's not a bolt......THIS is a bolt" Less progress than planned tonight as I dropped my Makita drill on its nose - it did not sound good after so a not so happy hour was spent stripping down the gearbox on it - 14 planetary gears inside! but eventually I had it running smooth again. So.....old toolboard gets put up, but decided after this to not use it after all, some slimmer ones will go in its place. Shelves notched and some more electrics going in, And some tools make it back home.

If your hands are bad, get on the internet and buy some udder cream. Far better than any of the stuff available in a chemist and probably cheaper. Plus you get to say udders in every day conversation.

Thanks for that, similar to the setup at work off our drier/chiller unit for our compressors. More wiring tonight, and a bit of painting, had to paint round my Super CC sticker - could not git rid of it, its about 30 years old now

Can I ask where you got your shelving from please?
I’m after some that I’m not going to catch walking passed and yours seem an ideal depth
