Can you tell us more about the carb's dampening?
More importantly, did you guys escape the heavy weather today? Even up here in New England, the winds were > 60 mph.
Best, John

Weather was pleasant today. The big line of frontal storms skipped past us by about 30 miles to the north. It was a bit windy and rained for about a minute. The needles system is remarkably simple. There is a loosely coupled T bar, with the bottom of the bar attached to a spring loaded plunger. The plunger is pulled against the spring by manifold vacuum, which pulls the needles in and closes the apertures. The leaning off is simply damped on way by a ball bearing against a split hole- when against the hole like a one way valve the vacuum can only draw the needles in slowly so the mixture becomes lean slowly. The needles can also be pulled upwards sharply by the same mechanism that operates the accelerator pump, and then the plunger can catch up if required. Very simple damping of the enrichment. Phil

Sent the heater valve off for rebuild also. Phil wow, something you have decided to send out for service? it must be very difficult to fix DIY, then.... JP It's a piece of spring loaded thermostatically sprung nonsense that requires special tools to pull apart and the correct rubber boots to reassemble and not have leak. Rebuild cost was reasonable and the guy's been doing them for 30 years. Ditto the wiper motor. Kits used to be available. Said hell with it and sent it off too. I tried fixing it but it needs new parts that they won't sell independently. Phil

Phone call this afternoon. Wiper motor is rebuilt and on its way back.
The case was bent, guy said looks like someone had dropped it so he changed the case for a new old stock one. That explains why it would get hung up in the middle of the screen.

That’s great. Definitely a worthwhile thing to get done.

That’s great. Definitely a worthwhile thing to get done. Absolutely. It's taken them from useless to slightly crappy, which is about as good as vacuum wipers get. Phil

Phil, this may be a goofy question, but what would it cost to put A/C in that car? Are there any reasonably priced kits? John
