Haven't been doing much lately to the cars, but today I jacked the Pontiac up and cleaned the fuel gauge sender connection because the reading it was providing was becoming somewhat random.
Also added a bit of snake oil to the oil and surprisingly it has actually stopped the rear main from leaking. How long that lasts is yet to be seen but hey, any means of stemming the flow a touch is good. I'll do the seals next time I pull the engine.

Yes, in a little metal tin. Smelled quite vicious. Old rope/rubber seal appears to have sucked it up and no longer leaks. Phil

Another thing appears to have happened. That oil stuff has freed up whatever was stuck and now the car idles smoothly on all 8 cylinders. Improvement!

Went on a little jaunt yesterday. There was a meetup in town. That was fun, got to hang out and chat with people. Ordered a new speedometer cable and a new rear UJ, which should be in towards the end of the week. Phil

As I'm usually just lurking around giving you thumbs up it's time for another comment. Still a beautiful car and great that you are using it so regularly.

Problem there is things are wearing out.
Just arrived in new speedometer cable and rear UJ. Water pump needs changing out also, got that in a box on the to-do list.
I also have a theorem on the gearbox- I am going to add a spring to the 3-4 TV module and see if holding that piston in when it's not needed fixes the issue with it getting hung up going into 2nd when it's hot.

Nice evening after work. Pulled the old speedometer cable out. Oddly it wasn't broken and still turned but the gearbox end had worn to a cylinder, all the flats had gone. Shiny new cable put in. Result. Happy with that again. Fought a bit but got the new rear UJ in. Back end is now silent. Phil

Yup. That's broken. Also bought some oil. Might find time tomorrow to weld that back up.

That's better. All fixed. Did oil and grease at the same time so that's good.

Nice to see this pop up again. Is the gearbox behaving?

For the most part yes. Only when it gets really hot does it act up.

Shindig downtown outside the courthouse tonight. Organizers wanted all the old cars lined up down the street. Was a fun night out. Nice little illuminated arcade by the old feedstock warehouse (now cafe). Courthouse is quite an imposing building. Music being played on the bandstand, everybody having a good time. Fun night out. Tomorrow morning taking the back roads up to Morgan City with the other old cars in the group to get barbeque. Phil

Currently in the season of photogenic mornings. Also put a new quieter muffler on. Much better. Phil

I now own three vehicles I need to pull the engine on.
Finally the bottom end on the Pontiac let go. It's been chatty since I got the car but under light load now konk konk konk so time for a full rebuild.
