On a slight tangent I now have a new carburetor, which is a lot less sloppy and slack than the one on the car right now. It needs a jolly good clean though. Phil

For the love of God man, get that off the table before the wife sees it...

It's completely dry. It was removed from a running car about 40 years ago... I'm guessing a scrapyard pull. It's remarkably good under the dirt.

Just put the accelerator pump top cap in the ultrasound bath for a while. Came up nice. Hopefully the rest of the carb will come up well also. Phil

Arses. I put the small stuff in a plastic pot with solvent, then that in water in the machine. Pop, the heat made it open. Oh well. Stuffed the choke assembly in seeing as the water is dirty now Phil

Looks like it will clean up great.

Yeah, that surprised me. The engine it came off was a heavy breather though, the choke mechanism was sooted up solid. Phil

Looking at that lovely float, you realize there must have been vast rooms full of people soldering such pieces together. John

Looking at that lovely float, you realize there must have been vast rooms full of people soldering such pieces together. John Yup, and hammering in the little lead plugs. It's all quite intricate for a mid 40's design. It just doesn't have damped needles like an SU. Phil

Wait no. I'm wrong. It is damped, and in quite a clever way, too.

I stand by my original statement: Morris Minor on steroids.
