Out and about today, car broke down. Started running real rough, managed to nurse it a ways out to Auto Zone. Popped the hood, liked to lose my fingerprints on the coil. Bought a new coil, fittes it in the parking lot and carried on. Old cars aren't so bad all the time. Yay! I'll take it off your hands  |

Yay! I'll take it off your hands Couldn't give you something broken.  Checked the plugs, all are a nice sienna color. Regapped them all.  Cleaned and gapped the points, 16 thou', test drive successful. Smooth! Phil |

cut the old coil up phil ? see what happened inside . It had been getting progressively worse, the tach was randomly flicking as I was driving. It was hot so the insulation had broken down. New coil runs at the same temperature as the engine bay. Phil |

Contact less ign upgrade Phil? Thought about it, decided no- I like the twin points setup. If one fails it'll stay running but it does give you a warning it's happening, you feel the timing changing randomly. I like the simplicity, it's reliable enough. Edit: Went check and most contactless points systems won't go as low as this one idles. |

I share your pain. Tried to start the Goddess today. Freshly charged truck battery, new battery clamps. Half a rev and the solenoid does one Grandson was not impressed that no Cummins 'shops' were open on Easter Sunday. You could always buy a $55 bag of oranges down the market and get a free solenoid thrown in.  I took the kids to go rollerblade at the park today. Surprisingly, the car behaved almost flawlessly. Invisible* repair time.  Hood got a few ripples, light skim of filler now should see that right.  Roof still needs work, but is less conspicuous. Ten minutes' work in the sun, I had shredded my arm on the headliner clips and that was enough. Phil |

Tweaked the timing a touch. Fixed headlight connector which had fallen apart (rusty spring clip).  Plugs look good and the car is really happy now at 2000 RPM (45 mph). That's good. |

It's considered rather un-PC here these days. That and you cannot really clip a tray to a modern's glass. |

Some housekeeping tonight.  Checked the vacuum advance module still works. Tweaked the timing slightly because hot it was pinking at low revs under heavy throttle. Lubricated all the linkages and carburetor.  Cleaned the screen wash bottle and filled it up. Now I want an orange soda. Fixed the low note horn too, the points needed cleaning and adjusting. Better now. Even bought a new magic tree. Phil |
