Begone, knackered Monroe Manumatic! Hello, Delco Advantage! I do like changing shocks like these. There's no spring compressor, no pain in the ass fight to get the things in and out. Major difference in the way the car drives. So much so you can now feel the rear shocks are a bit tired too. Might order a pair. Those are even easier. Phil

Went fuel up tonight. 8.7mpg, and it turns out it doesn't like the fuel I put in. Idles like curse word and lumpy as hell. On the positive side, the radio fixed itself. Phil

Not the usual fuel used and station you go to? Are you sure it's fuel, and not ignition related? Maybe the radio is diverting power from the coil.

I think actually the diode pack in the alternator is going faulty, it's not charging at idle and the ammeter was registering quite a draw with just the engine running.

Since the car had been sat outside in the rain, the passenger side parking light filled up with water and went all rusty. I found an old bottle of evapo-rust and left it to sit. That did the square root of sod all so I rinsed it out and attacked it with a steel brush instead. Much better. If you so care to look, now it's nicer. Next up, get the chrome looking pretty again. Driving about all over. Went take care of the jungle at mother in laws yard. Warm evening on the way home. Radio on, window down, engine humming away up the highway, gathering bugs on the windshield. Can't say it's a trailer queen.

New wiper blades today. The nice animated gif has been translated into a static jpeg by the site so you'll just have to imagine them wiping the screen.

Looking at that photo, with the contrast as it is, all it needs is a set of overhead switches and a compass.
You can really get the whole "piloting a jet plane" feeling from it.

Out and about yesterday, cruising Louisiana Highway One in the sunshine. Hot day but the car was running well. Only minor issue was the horn decided to keep blowing when I would turn. Took it all to bits. Thankfully it still comes apart easily. Hammered the bearing out and checked the wire, thinking it had maybe chafed but it was all in good shape. Turns out the foam rubber ring that supports the horn push has gone soft and the hot weather just made that worse. Later in the evening it had cooled off and the was a little daylight left so I decided to start on the brightwork. Good result, Dremel overheated so more to follow. Phil

Cleaned a bit more of the grille. Employed the Size Eight method of body shut line adjustment on the hood, which had annoyed me since I got the car. It now lines up nicely. That's a really common thing on these cars, the hoods warp with heat cycling and age. (Kindigit Design's "Mischief") ...even pro body shops manage to get the grilles on the squint.
