So, if I were to buy this car..... It’s name has already been given by DarrenH on here. Tippex. Guess why? Quick video around it. CLICK LINK. Yup, it is a big thing. Driving force. And yes, aircon has been removed. No concern to me. So now you have a better idea of what I am looking at. Love the electric rear glass, operated from dash or with key in tailgate.

in the back of my head it could still be a donor for a body swap. What body would you swap on to it, and if thats your plan, why start with a K5 Blazer? Plenty of pick ups or metrocab taxis available for chassis donors. If it helps with wondering how much you should pay, a friend of mine sold this to a dealer last year for £12,000

I'd definitely go for it, although I admittedly would prefer a 4wd example. I definitely do think it needs a different set of wheels, a bigger cam (by the late 70s everything sold in the US was effectively castrated in the name of emissions), and a proper exhaust.
If anyone wants to see what one of these could look like, have a look...
This one is actually a 73-75, which had a completely detachable roof, instead of just having a rear section that could be removed.

You like the car, You have some cash, You have the skills,
If you would buy it and lose interest would you lose (lots of) money?
If all positive, why not do it? I am sure you could not wipe the smile of your own face when listening to that nice V8 music.
I had a Chrysler V8, a Discovery V8 and a Jeep V8. The first thing I did was open the exhaust a bit and then find as many traffic lights and tunnels I could find so I could hear that awesome sound of an accelerating V8.
you know what, Just do it

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Even with 2wd I'd be on that like white on rice if the price was right. It's amazing where 2wd can go if you've got chains on and don't mind taking a few risks. Might want a lift kit though, or is it sitting lower than standard?

My brother used to have one of these but with the V8 diesel. I wanted to buy it off him and drop it on the floor like this one but just couldn’t scrape the money together at the time If the price is right I’d be all over it Grizz!

Cool as ......... If I could , I would . Good choice. in the back of my head it could still be a donor for a body swap. What body would you swap on to it, and if thats your plan, why start with a K5 Blazer? Plenty of pick ups or metrocab taxis available for chassis donors. If it helps with wondering how much you should pay, a friend of mine sold this to a dealer last year for £12,000 I think this one is right near the basement end of its price with MOT and everything working as it should, it’s worth more than the asking price, and if advertised anywhere should recoup its cash easily. Saying that, I would love the red one. Being a ‘79 it’s tax and MOT status changes in the new year too..... The body swap idea is more just that it is not like a 10-20 year old modern trades in on scappage and getting crushed.
All the restrictive stuff is gone on this one. There is no external trim left so I could also imagine some funky 70’s early 80’s graphics in a paint combo if one felt that way.... I do not. You like the car, You have some cash, You have the skills, If you would buy it and lose interest would you lose (lots of) money? If all positive, why not do it? I am sure you could not wipe the smile of your own face when listening to that nice V8 music. I had a Chrysler V8, a Discovery V8 and a Jeep V8. The first thing I did was open the exhaust a bit and then find as many traffic lights and tunnels I could find so I could hear that awesome sound of an accelerating V8. you know what, Just do it Agreed on the above. New cars lose more in value than the price of one of these in year one, no smiles. If the roof on Tippex does this........... then get it bought - or give the guy my number and I'll get it bought ;-) The roof on Tippex does that yes...... 😈 Even with 2wd I'd be on that like white on rice if the price was right. It's amazing where 2wd can go if you've got chains on and don't mind taking a few risks. Might want a lift kit though, or is it sitting lower than standard? 2wd is all I am interested as I am no off-roader. Right price is relative. We know that the basic running gear from a V8 including the TH400 box it is fitted with makes out there in modified country. It is a lot lower than standard, and though the drive is acceptable, I prefer them a bit taller, less than standard but not that low. My brother used to have one of these but with the V8 diesel. I wanted to buy it off him and drop it on the floor like this one but just couldn’t scrape the money together at the time If the price is right I’d be all over it Grizz! As mentioned, price is relative. But I feel the price is right for want it is. Less would be better, but ain’t happening. MY KINDA GUY. GRAB A BEER AND WATCH THIS.

I have been looking at another vehicle to replace Prozac....... Absolutely no reason to escalate my private motoring costs at all but the itch is always there. Now we know that I have the 1966 C10 Chevy truck in “kit form” in my garage, and it is patient and I will get to it, in my own time. Yes, really. When I am ready. Mate Martin gave me a heads up on a 1979 Chevy K5 Blazer in 2wd form last week (Thanks Mate #sarcastic mode) which I then went to see on the way home Friday night and again for more than two hours on Saturday afternoon. I have no interest in 4x4 cars at all. Turns out that I saw this car in June 2016 and still have a photo I took at the time as I really liked it then. But of course life, death and taxes plus a divorce got in the way. I also started a question thread here: which has generated a lot of comments and opinions, all valid of course and much appreciated as I am the KING OF DITHERERS when it comes to this sort of thing. Below a quote from Disasterbus with my responses to his points. Personally I don't need it, it's too wide for my drive so I've nowhere to park it, I already have too many cars, I don't have the cash to spare, I don't have the skills to weld it up, I can't afford to run it, it doesn't have 4 seats and it simply isn't practical. So, following that rational review my decision would be....... Hell yeah, get it bought, get it home and worry about everything else later!! It will fit my drive, just.
I have loads of space to park it.
I am selling Prozac, so need a car.
I have cash to spare, banks are not making it worth my while.
I have a new welder.
I can’t afford to run it, or maybe I can.......
It has four seats, technically you can fit 5 people.
The rear converts to flatbed truck, tailgate drops, rear roof comes off. Where do I deliver it??? And no, it still was not enough motivation to get me to just randomly hand over cash. Even a half an hour on the phone to kevfromwales had me thinking it’s a great idea. Yet I woke this morning wondering if this little Berlingo that has been running and performing faultlessly for 19 months as an adjunct to my company car Ford Focus for when dirty jobs needed doing, really needed to be replaced with a Big, Dirty, Nasty Fossil Fuel Guzzling Monster that would be costing me pretty much 10 times as much to run and own than the Berlingo. Not the car in question, though it is American too. Prozac stood in the background, truly Kicked to the Curb, looking on as I fawned over the bid smelly beast for hours. Tailgate too drops, turning it into a cavernous skip on wheels. Love the electric rear glass, operated from dash or with key in tailgate Inside the rear bench can fold forward or be unbolted too. Folded forward access via front passenger seat. I spent about 30 minutes under it, and the only rust was this hole in the corner by the drivers footwell. The rest of the underside is shockingly rustfree. Fenders and hood, conversely are rough, rotten but absolutely functional. This does not scare me. Couple of hours cutting, welding, undersealing and job done. Where your wallet goes to get raped.

Wow. I looked in on this thread when only PP had made one post, and thought, I'll get to that later. Looked cool as it was, but in answer, no, I wouldn't - who needs another project? Certainly not me.
Someone said the "dirtina" was the primary reason they liked it, and I felt the same.
Then you started mentioning that it had an MOT...
And then you mentioned it was a 79 car so next year it will be essentially free to own (not run..)
And then the pictures of it being clean showed up and actually, it's still got patina, just a different kind now, and it still appeals - and i can't find a reason NOT to like it.
In a way I'm glad I don't have cash burning a hole in my pocket, because I don't think I would have stood near that car for two hours knowing I could afford it and not have bought it! (I don't have spare cash because I did exactly that, went to "look" at a laid-up M3 knowing I could afford it but certainly not needed... found out it had 6 months MOT, and that cash in the pocket swiftly turned into a set of keys instead.)

What a great, well thought out response Thank you for that. I think I am very cautious because I can convince myself of all sorts of things. So buying this is too easy.

Buy it, give it a week or a month, if you sell it will you get what you paid with relative ease? Ok it's cost insurance and tax, but you can say you did it instead of wishing you did...
