RR Weekender vs RR Gathering

I don't really do static shows - hence my involvement in the Gathering and Weekender where myself and gewy (plus his wonderful wife Gillian) look after the track activities

RRG has both show and track running at the same time - so on the day something for everyone.

The weekender this year was track action Sat and a level of paddock based displays on Sat and Sun complemented by a chilled out show on the "track" Sun

We will do the same format in 2019 but the plan is there will be more "cars in action" on the Sunday - Obviously we can't use the "track" as the whole thing becomes a great big car display area but we can set up an "autotest" style activity in an area that got little use last year - to provide some fun for those that like to use their cars and a bit of action for those that like to watch.

So bigger and better than this year - having learnt the lessons of what works or doesn't work at the venue in the first event.

Personally, I would say Gathering over Weekender.... so I challenge luckyseven to a duel

We did one day at the Weekender, and saw the static show but missed the track action, so I think we’d have to camp or stay nearby next year. But liked the fact that the Gathering had it all in one day (we camped at the Gathering and was chilled out on the Saturday and had a walk around the campsites... and the tat auction, but mostly it seemed a one day event)

Possibly it’s because the Gathering is closer to us and we don’t have to fight our way south... so it might just be the hassle of getting there that taints the experience? or that we were camping at the gathering so more relaxed


Either way, we hope to get to both again next year.... so I’ll update this after then

I've done both
And I'm right in the middle of them so both are a 3 hour trip each way
I'm not one for camping so the gathering is good because it's just one day but that means it's a long day
And for the goodwood show we rented a place local to the track and stayed the weekend
So can't comment on the overnight camping banter and frolicking about

The gathering is good because there is track action as well as a static show all going on at the same time plus the retro car parking if your feeling fit and don't mind the walk
So something for everyone

The weekender is in a great location but you do need to go for both days
I had friends come down on the Sunday and they were a bit disappointed to have missed the track action because that was only happening on the Saturday
If there was a way of keeping the track open on both days and still get the retro parking on site as well that would be good


Summary
Both show are brilliant and if your into the retro or modern classic car scene (and I don't mean anything on air will do) and you like to see cars being used and not just polished then I think both are a must

Not to detract from your argument, however. They are both superb shows that you'd be happy to spend a day at in any context. Just one's held in civilisation and one's held in 1842. Or Worcestershire, as it's also known

Not at Goodwood - BNMAC stand was parked on the track and I've already stated that we can't use the track on the Sunday

But obviously you was joking and we have another place in mind

Turbo envy is a terrible thing To be fair, having had head-sized turbos on rotaries, I'd prefer something a bit smaller with some response that doesn't terrify you with sledgehammer lag anyway
