(Also i don't have anywhere near £15K spare ) You shouldn't think about it as spending £15k you don't have but think of it as more as an investment!!! 😉 (That what I said to the wife when I bought it) 😆 She still thinks she's going to get a conservatory when I sell it but I'm thinking more a long the lines of a Bentley turbo

More great and tidy repairs carried out by yourself, it’s a shame you’re going to sell it, I hope it goes to a great home, it really is a nice car! Thanks 👍 I recon you could give it a good home "wink wink" Haha, I would love to, but I feel it would probably be up for more than I could justify after just getting a house

More progress Firstly the battery I've been using to start and move the car about with isn't the correct one so it don't fit So bought a new battery Not an easy task getting that battery in that hole you need one hand to hold the wires out the way and leaves you only one hand to lift quite a large battery into place all within the confines of the door opening but I guess it's a small sacrifice to pay if it makes the car handle better I can't think why else they would put it there No to the lumpy idle and flat spot After much head scratching I had lots of possibles Like: injectors/temp sensor/air flow meter I knew it couldn't be the fuel pump or regulator as I had already replaced them because they had packed up It didn't seem to be an ignition fault because of the way it was playing up Now general rule of Sod's law it's always the most expensive thing that needs replacing and that would be the air flow meter I think there about a million pounds from BMW I've seen posts in the past about air flow meter cleaners ! I've had my doubts on this type of miracle fix but it's not expensive so worth a try So I bought this one I cleaned it as per instructions But I done it over a clean plastic cup to see what if anything came off As you can see there was definitely dirt in or on it Now I'm not sure if the black dirt particulars in the cup came from the side walls of off the sensor itself Now I say the following with baited breath It seems to be much better or dare I say as good as it's ever been so hopefully that's it I took it out for a short drive to get petrol on Thursday night so I could use it for work on Friday And this happened 😄 I forgot the gear knob illuminated with the lights I do remember buying a new one when I first bought the car as the old one was looking tatty from memory it cost £80 back then So it's on the road once more The computer is telling me the coolant is low when it's not so if that don't fix itself il have to fit a new sensor But apart from that it seems to be ok and it remarkable how nice the E34 is to drive

from what i remember the air flow sensor heats up (like a light bulb filament) when you cycle the ignition, a self cleaning thing. i guess after this many years it could get deposits on it just from that

Problems!!!!!!! I've been using the car all week for work to make sure it's all good for goodwood and today on the way to work I could hear a squeaky fan belt not all the time just once in a while When I got to work I had a look and the belts were loose Now when I fitted the new belts there was a bit of surface rust on the pulleys so I did expect a small amount of bedding in But this was a bit more than expected the worst was the alternator/water pump belt As it happens this is the easier to get to so before i left work I adjusted that belt And then when I got home I done the other two There more involved as you can only get to them from underneath and you need to remove the under trays to get in there So with that done it was on to the more important things When I got the discs blasted I got the cam cover done as well I only finished painting it the other day so time to refit Now that's better So I guess I'm ready for goodwood I'm heading down on Monday so as long as nothing falls off between now and next weekend il be there 👍 Hopefully my paddock pass and Sunday show pass arrive by Monday 😳

Was good to see the m5 in the flesh at the weekend. 👍 Did you take it on the track? Sort of !!! on the Saturday I done the sighting laps but when I went out the fan belt snapped approaching the first corner and that belt took out the pas belt as well so had no power steering or alternator and most importantly water pump so I done almost one lap but pulled in as the temperature was on the up and didn't won't to chance it I did get it semi fixed later that day but I had to leave the viscous fan off to help prolong the fan belt life and make sure I could get it home so I got to go out on Sunday in the autosolo which was fine as long as your moving but I had to switch it off while we waited our turn on track Shame as it would be much more at home on a fast track than a tight slalom but there's things happen

Just a little update As I mentioned the car had a little misshap at goodwood on the Saturday Having owned the car for many years and never having a problem with belts before I thought there must be more to it then just and faulty belt/belts and it would need more investigation So when I got back home from goodwood I stripped it all down for a closer look And my diagnostics is "abrasive rust" I recon the surface rust that has built up in the Vee of the pulleys from being parked up has been wearing the belts down and making them loose then they slip and burn up and finally disintegration!!! This was the water pump pulley before I gave it a clean So I put all of them on the lathe and cleaned them up with some sand paper through the grades to get a nice finish Still has some pitting but it's nice a smooth so they shouldn't wear the belts now It's all back together now and it seams ok but I need to put some mileage on it just to make sure

Just read your post above, sods law they would let go on the first lap
Looks a good job on the pulley, the before would have been definitely impacting belt life

Well after 15 years and lots of perseverance and maintenance Me and my trusty M5 have parted company 😥 I wanted an older model and she wanted to travel the world
And so be it The M5 is currently on a long trip overseas to its new owner in "Hong Kong "
And as for me I've already got my eyes on her replacement 😊

Cheers Matt It was nice to own whether it's to drive or just say you own an iconic BMW and I would have kept it forever but I just fancied something different all my cars are in someway performance focused and I thought it was time for something big and soft so going classic American
